Outlook email sending error
« on: September 04, 2016, 10:03:28 pm »
Hi,

I get the following error every time i try to send an email from my outlook.com email:

550 550 5.3.4 554-554 5.2.0 STOREDEV.Deliver; delivery result banner Open the message and send to try again

I'm using the default imap and smtp settings.

My hotmail account works fine. The outlook account got temporarily suspended when i first started using the account with aquamail, had to give them my number to get the account enabled again.

Any help or pointers greatly appreciated.

Not an AquaMail issue. Please contact MS support.

PS -- for the record, even though I don't use my @outlook account much, I've never seen this error... Maybe they need to "fix" something on their side, I mean really fix it?

Kostya, thank you for the super quick reply and clarifying  the issue, i had a feeling it is MS's problem, i thought i'd just run it by you.

Just a quick off topic question, how do you get the drop down menu in the message list with all the other email addresses like in k-@mail?

I am moving/coming over from k-@mail.

PS i've removed the outlook email, I can't be bothered with MS and yahoo anymore.

Re: the drop down menu in the message list with all the other email addresses

"addresses" -- accounts?

It's in the navigation drawer, just swipe in from the left and tap "accounts" (first item).

You can set the accounts "panel" to be visible without that "tap" -- app settings -> look and feel -> accounts panel (just below "navigation drawer") -> set to "yes, always visible".

Yes accounts.

i am aware of the drawer, what i was looking for was the full email address, the drawer has small circles which are confusing when the letters are the same. Also from the top of the inbox it is very quick to move around than to go to the drawer etc.

Re: letters

Yes, I have it on my to-do to have a setting to show account names there, but it's not done yet and the space there is very limited.

Re: top of the inbox

If you turn off navigation drawer, then its content will move to a drop-down that opens from the window title (same as in K9, I suppose).

But that won't have the list of accounts, sorry (does not seem to belong there).

Thanks. gmail used to have it, k-@ mail still has it, but no worries.

I'm really liking aquamail, it's going to take some time to go through all the settings  :)

the conversation view in messages, when you reply it takes that email to the top of the message list, is that normal or can you change that?

PS regarding drop down account list, maybe you can add it as option in the settings in the future, i just remembered it's exactly like the drop down menu when you compose an email.

Re: when you reply it takes that email to the top of the message list, is that normal or can you change that

I assume you've enabled "across accounts" (in conversation settings) -- in which case the message you'd just sent will be the newest in its conversation...

Re: maybe you can add it as option in the settings in the future, i just remembered it's exactly like the drop down menu when you compose an email

"exactly" -- "drops down from same place": yes

But the contents is not quite the same, the compose window does not have to show folders.

Thanks that worked!

Wow I LOVE this app, it juts gets better.

Yes but you can add a drawer for the folders instead of trying fit them into the drop down menu, just a thought.

just an update, I spoke to microsoft about this, and they saying it's the 3rd party app because i can log onto their email via the web and because my other to hotmail accounts work.

I have no knowledge about this error that you and Kostya have been discussing. But, I am ready to bet that they (MS support) have that answer scripted.
It is taught in the "Introduction to customer support": blame the 3rd party software/equipment/... If you are not renting a cable modem but have your own, when you are calling about internet problems, the ISP will first blame the modem.

Aquamail is using IMAP4 and SMTP standards, and it works with many different providers.
Having been reading this forum for 2.5 years, I have seen many situations reported when major mail providers (Outlook/Hotmail, Yahoo, ... ) are breaking something in their servers. And in almost all (if not all) cases, the first, jerk-knee reaction from all of them is "it must be your 3rd-party e-mail app".

I am very much impressed that Kostya frequently goes far above and beyond to compensate for the screw-ups of those providers, adding some special provisions/workarounds in Aquamail so that users can use those providers even when it is obviously a fault of those providers (of course, to the extent of what is possible and practical).

And by the way, the MS' support got the logic backwards: Aquamail works well with hotmail accounts (as well as all other providers). So, MS messed up something with Outlook server/account.

StR,

I totally agree with you,

I said most of what you posted to them, but like you said they're programmed to read a specific scripts relating to any 3rd party app.

I kept telling them that the error was on their end, and google to see it, but they wouldn't listen.

Total waste of time contacting them.

Yes, this is how MS support is. Outsourced, scripted.

I've seen a discussion on their support forums where someone was posting specific IMAP commands and server responses, pointing out what was wrong, it was very easy to follow, very logical. Support would respond with "Sir, please check your server settings" every time.
