just an update, I spoke to microsoft about this, and they saying it's the 3rd party app because i can log onto their email via the web and because my other to hotmail accounts work.
I have no knowledge about this error that you and Kostya have been discussing. But, I am ready to bet that they (MS support) have that answer
scripted.
It is taught in the "Introduction to customer support": blame the 3rd party software/equipment/... If you are not renting a cable modem but have your own, when you are calling about internet problems, the ISP will first blame the modem.
Aquamail is using IMAP4 and SMTP standards, and it works with many different providers.
Having been reading this forum for 2.5 years, I have seen many situations reported when major mail providers (Outlook/Hotmail, Yahoo, ... ) are breaking something in their servers. And in almost all (if not all) cases, the first, jerk-knee reaction from all of them is "it must be your 3rd-party e-mail app".
I am very much impressed that Kostya frequently goes far above and beyond to compensate for the screw-ups of those providers, adding some special provisions/workarounds in Aquamail so that users can use those providers even when it is obviously a fault of those providers (of course, to the extent of what is possible and practical).
And by the way, the MS' support got the logic backwards: Aquamail works well with hotmail accounts (as well as all other providers). So, MS messed up something with Outlook server/account.
