Bell Sympatico settings
« on: February 28, 2013, 10:33:24 pm »
Hello all,

I'm having problems setting up the email app.  Incoming server is okay but I get an error for the outgoing server.  I have checked with Bell as to their settings - but they say, of course, they do not support other email clients.  Anyone out there successfully set up with Bell carrier in Canada?  Many thanks.

Have you tried these settings?

Incoming mail server (POP)
POP Server: pophm.sympatico.ca
Port: 995
User name: Email address (e.g: jsmith@sympatico.ca or jsmith@bell.net) and password (e.g.: a123456z)
SSL: Be sure to select the this server requires a secure connection (SSL) or use SSL (Secure Sockets Layers) option

Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
SMTP Server: smtphm.sympatico.ca
Port: 25
Authentication: Yes
User name: Email address (e.g: jsmith@sympatico.ca or jsmith@bell.net) and password (e.g.: a123456z)
TLS/SSL Required: Yes (select TLS if available, if not, select SSL)

Taken from: https://service.sympatico.ca/index.cfm?method=content.view&content_id=1067

Are you using a Phone company that allows using port 25?

It was the 'TLS' setting!  I had SSL.  Thank you!  All is well.
