Enable push notifications
« on: March 10, 2018, 11:31:02 pm »
Hi there, I've been using aquamail for a couple of months. I have four separate accounts and I have them all set to push via the main settings in the app. None of the accounts have any special sub settings for notifications. I saw some older post that said to check something with the data settings but I don't see that specific setting anymore. I am not getting push notifications. I have sent a couple of test emails to the various accounts and they do not show up unless I manually sync within aquamail.

The app's FAQ-page has detailed information about how to enable "Push":
[Push must be enabled (configured) in 3 places: (1) for the entire app, (2) for the specific account, and (3) for the specific folder(s)]

Thank you, the two accounts that I'm having issues with are POP accounts so when I get to the long press there is no push option. There is an option checked to "schedule sync" but since no messages are coming in unless I manually press the refresh button something else must be wrong.

The Microsoft Exchange account and Gmail accounts are working fine

POP3 protocol doesn't support push notifications.

You should switch to IMAP.

Okay, fair enough. So I now changed it to have it poll every 10 minutes and it's still not pulling emails unless I do a manual refresh. How do I set it to check emails periodically on POP?

It should be checking mail (every 15 by default, or every 10).

If not, the most common culprit(s) are "battery optimizers", built into Android, or preinstalled, or third party.

There is a checklist near the end of the FAQ (which in turn is linked just below, in my signature).

I checked my email company and they do offer IMAP. For some reason Aquamail is only allowing me to set it up as POP.  Even as a manual setup, iMAP is not an option. Ideas?

An account’s type (POP3 / IMAP) cannot be changed once the account’s been set up.

You need to remove the account (POP3) from Aqua and add it back as IMAP, using Manual account setup button.
