Contacts problem and message numbers...
« on: August 16, 2017, 12:50:28 am »
I just downloaded this app a day or two ago, and I have three questions.

First - My contacts are no longer pop-up suggested in the "To" field. They were there for like the first day I had this app, and now suddenly they aren't anymore. I'm pretty sure I didn't change any setting to turn that off, and I really need them back. Did I mis-set a setting or have I  caught a bug?

Second - The number of emails shown next to Inbox is throwing me off. I'm used to an email that doesn't show the number of messages in the folder, it just shows a bolded number if there are NEW messages. Is there a way to turn off those really long numbers?

Third - Is there any way to actually view archived emails without enabling the entire folder to be there, viewable all the time? I couldn't figure out how to access archived mail without turning on the whole folder and I'm not sure I want the folder (especially if I can't turn off the number next to it, saying there are 10,577,928 mails in there.  Okay there aren't that many but still).

Thanks!

First - are the contacts you expect to see there in the Contacts app?

Please check that Aqua Mail has the "permission" to access Contacts - in phone Settings -> Apps -> Aqua Mail -> permissions.

Second - it will show the actual unread count.

It's good hygiene to mark really old unread messages as "read". You can do it from Aqua Mail even, long press a folder -> mark all read.

Third - if you enable a folder "to sync" then it will 1) be kept up to date and 2) will show on the app's main screen.

If you don't want to see "total" message counts, you can turn this off in app settings -> account list -> "show per-folder total counts". This will affect all folders, though (which may be what you want... if not, sorry, no folder level setting for this).

First - No, because they are email contacts.  I don't use my phone's contacts app to put in email-only contacts, and anyway that wouldn't explain why they were popping up and then aren't anymore.  (Yes the app has permission, doesn't it HAVE to because it requests it?  Could I really deny an app one permission while still being able to download and use the app?  Because if so that'd be nice, I'd really like to deny some apps certain things.)

Second - Good hygiene.  How presumptuous.  -_-  All my messages ARE marked as read.  There are no unread messages.  I'm just saying that I don't want to see long numbers because I'm used to no one else doing that, ever, and it's sloppy-looking.  But now I followed your instructions and they're off now, so thanks.

Third - I was asking how to actually view archived mail without enabling the folder to sync and show.  I HAD to do that to view any mail that was archived, and I was just wondering if there was any way to view that mail without having to go through all that.  Nevermind it's done, I'll live with it showing.

Just need contacts fixed now.  Every email app (including yours) has a pop-up to autocomplete an email address when you're typing it out, WITHOUT it being in the phone's contacts app.  I'm sure there's a way to get it back, because it WAS there, and I just need to know how.  Maybe I did screw up a setting.  I don't think so.  But I'm not going to clutter the contacts on my phone with 1000+ junk email addresses from people I don't even really know just in case I decide I need to write that guy from Geico back about my insurance.  I certainly don't want him in my phone, and I don't want to  waste time looking up his email or address either.  I just wan to start typing "geic" and see it pop up in the "To" field, like in the good ole days of a few days ago and other email apps.

First - You don't have to use the systems own contact app:
-> Settings -> Contacts (section "Composing and sending')
     -> disable' 'Auto-add contacts'

Second - solved.
(Please don't be upset  8) )

Third: Just need contacts fixed now;

-> Settings -> Contacts (section "Composing and sending')
     -> disable' 'Auto-add contacts'

Ah, sweet!  Auto-adding contacts to phone contacts wasn't my problem and was already off, BUT in there was an option to "Offer addresses from recent messages, not saved in Contacts" that was un-checked, and by checking that I got my pop-up back.

So yaay problem solved thanks!

I'm sure I never deselected that box though, so what's going on.  I think maybe I have ghosts...
