How can I create a Google Task item, from within AquaMail?
« on: August 14, 2017, 09:17:03 pm »
So, Microsoft has purchased Wunderlist and will, presumably, close that out. Wunderlist users will be forced to MS ToDo or another task list. Meanwhile, the new version of gSyncit will no longer synchronize Outlook (desktop) tasks with Wunderlist. The writing is on the wall and, for the time being, I'm heading back to Google Tasks, for my to do lists. With that as an introduction. . .

A useful feature within Gmail that I cannot find replicated, in AquaMail, is the capability to use an email message to create a new task item. I can see AquaMail will allow me to send an email message to my calendar (which is a very useful feature). But I'm not sure if there's a route that will allow an email message to be attached to a Google Task.

I can see I can copy the text from an email message, then use that to create a task, using another app (for example, GTasks). But the result doesn't include the email message headers in the task. And any HTML messages are reduced to only their plain text.

Thanks for any suggestions people may have, for integrating email (in AquaMail) into Google Tasks.

Hi, you can use the app "Gtasks" for showing and editing Google Tasks in Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.dayup.gtask

Be aware to select Google Tasks (and not TickTick) for syncing after first start.

In AquaMail you can share a message with Gtasks, you will find from, to, date and subject followed by plain mail body in description of the task.

Of course you will never find HTML-formatting in Google Tasks, because Google Tasks generally is just plain text based.

You can try Menu -> Copy/Share/Print -> Share in Aqua Mail when viewing a message.

@Kostya: This is what I was talking about.

But you need an additional app, which is visible in share-menu and is able to receive this data.

Yes, true. The receiving app - Google Tasks, Evernote, Wonderlist, whatever... there are many.

Mark asked for Google Tasks. There are not many apps for Google Tasks which are able to deal with shared data.

But maybe they should -- Android has a general purpose mechanism for "sharing" data from one app into another.

Seems that creating a task by sharing a piece of text (not necessarily from Aqua Mail) would be a useful thing.

Yes, of course apps for Google Tasks should/could provide it.

But it's similar to AquaMail: The developers decide... :)

That's exactly the solution I am seeking. Some means to Share with... Google Tasks. Or a little piece of middleware that can pass a link to the email (using the Gmail message ID, perhaps?) so a link can be created in the body of the task.

Anyway, I haven't found an presently-available means to do this, yet.

For what it's worth, here's my workaround. Until such time as there is a "Send to Tasks" option, under the Copy/Send/Share/Print menu within AquaMail:

From within an email message opened in AquaMail > select the overflow menu (those three vertical dots) > select Copy/Send/Share/Print > select Send to Calendar.

This calls a calendar app on the phone. I have a Task calendar, configured in Google, so I'm usually sending these tasks there. That way, I can get a date and time, or set an all-day task, on a specific date.

CalenGoo is one of the Android calendar apps that allows one to convert calendar items to tasks. So, that's what I do. CalenGoo allows me to convert the calendar item I (temporarily) created, from the email message. That new task can be set to the correct list, within Google Tasks and I can access all the other features normally associated with Google Tasks.

Oh, and don't forget to delete the entry on the Task calendar.

Whew!  ::)
