Restore not working? No accounts restored?

Samsung S7.  I made a backup and stored the file on my PC hard drive.  Of course, carefully entered password 2x as requested.  Then did factory reset on the phone.  Used "Smart Switch" Samsung ap to backup/restore aps back to the phone (including Aquamail).  Then I copied the backup file from the PC back onto the phone.  Aquamail does find the file.  When asking to restore it prompts for password.  I carefully enter same password, then click "OK" button. I have ALL boxes checked (restore settings + restore accounts) The message then says "restored app settings" . . . but I do not see any accounts restored!  It asks if I want to add an account?  Geesh!   No accounts restored?  What's going on?

In the backup settings, I selected BOTH options "back up accounts" and "back up app settings".  i.e. BOTH options were checked (I have a screen shot to prove it!)

Do your accounts already exist in Aqua perhaps? Restored / copied by the "Smart Switch" Samsung app?

In Aqua, an restore for accounts -- skips any accounts already present in the app, i.e. won't create duplicates and won't merge new account level settings into existing accounts. In other words it will only "add" accounts from the backup into the app.

You are right . . . I just discovered that by attempting to "add account" in aquamail, it DID pull up my account settings.  That is interesting.  SUGGESTION:  In aquamail's "restore" window, I suggest you add a dialogue box that says "Note: any email accounts ALREADY on this device will NOT be re-installed by this backup.  To reactivate the account, click "Add Account" then enter email address + log-in.  Aquamail will then restrieve ALL settings for that account".   Otherwise, I would not have known about this trick until you told me personally.

ANOTHER QUESTION :  Now That I have got the email account working in aquamail, it is no longer showing the same "appearance" features.  Specifically, previously I did *not* show color circles or images by each email.  Now, however, there ARE color alphateical circles or imags after this restore.  Were those settings ignored by the aquamail backup?  Just a small detail, but I was curious if I now have to manually change those "appearance" settings.  Also, the "cc" instructions, and "custom signature" are no longer there. 

ANOTHER QUESTION:  I also don't find any of my "Quick Responses" as being available any more.  (I spent a lot time creating them with html images etc.  Now they are gone after restoring with Aquamail?)

Um, I'm guessing that perhaps you did not backup / restore app settings? That's a separate checkbox on the "backup / restore" window.

That would explain the missing "quick responses" too.

For crying out loud!  I simply clicked the "BACKUP" button, then DID check both buttons.  You need to make this "backup" more user-friendly!   Now I'm screwed -- NOT backed up.  Ok?  Make ALL items "ON" by DEFAULT  . . . .

As far as I know, both checkboxes are activated by default.

Yes, and both boxes WERE checked by me during the backup.   But those settings, and my "insert" text blocks are nowhere to be found after the restore.  So what's the point if this backup doesnt work "as advertised"?

Used it multiple tines without a problem.

If you still have the original backup, you could try restoring just the settings again after clearing the app cache.

CONCLUSION:  The Aquamail "Backup" module did NOT work for me.  (Android 7.0   Samsung Galaxy S7). I ended up having to recreate everything MANUALLY after a factory reset. I feel betrayed (for lack of a better word)!  NONE of the following were backed up: "account" email settings, "Insert Quick Response" text blocks, "Signature" block.  I DID check the "account" option block to be included prior to clicking "backup" button.  To verify this "bug" in the backup module, I went back and DELETED the account from the phone.  Then rank Aquamail Restore (from my previous backup file).  The email account was NOT restored!  Fortunately, I was able to use my Samsung "Smart Switch" backup restore utility to restore the email account back to the phone.  WHAT I LEARNED FROM THIS EXPERIENCE = Do NOT count on Aquamail BACKUP to protect your data.  When it comes time to restore after a factory reset or new phone, you're NOT going to get your data back.  I hope this (unpleasant) experience serves as a warning to others!

Buggy, in my experience.  I sure won't trust it again!
