Author Topic: AquaMail created a Junk Mail folder - no such folder exists on IMAP server  (Read 13331 times)

I added an IMAP account to AquaMail (latest version on Android 6.0.1 stock). It is the only account on there. It correctly added and mapped all my folders. But after a few days it added a folder called Junk Mail to my folder list for that account. I don't understand where it came from. It is not on my IMAP server, I have Inbox, Spam, Sent Mail, Draft and Spam. That was all AquaMail had for a few days but now it has a Junk Mail folder which was defaulted to 'not sync'. I have double checked the IMAP account and also all my other devices that connect to that account but the ONLY place the Junk Mail folder exists is on AquaMail on this phone. And it won't let me delete the folder. So where did this folder come from and why can't I delete a local folder that is not mapped, not synced and actually doesn't exist on the server? Thanks!

Aqua Mail created this folder by itself. It does not exist on my IMAP account or any other devcice of mine that connects to my Imap account. I find it hard to believe that all my devices and my account are wrong and only Aquamil is the correct one. Occam is rolling over in his grave over that one...

My IMAP is account is Charter or Spectrum or whatever they call themselves. My cable company. I am sure the folder is not there because I can view and edit all the folders from my account through a browser (I use my desktop computer to do this). It lists no Junk Mail folder. It never has. I have never sen this folder. I have used this same email for 15 years. Never has any other device ever shown me a folder called Junk Mail.

If this folder DID exist on my server, why didn't Aquamail map it to something?

If this folder does not exist on your server:
long press on account name (AquaMail main view) -> Options and folders -> Folders
let it refresh (wait few seconds)
the folder will disappear by itself.

This process synchronizes the existing server-side folders to AquaMail. If the "Junk mail" folder does not actually exist on the server (and I really believe what you say :) ), then the folder should definitely disappear in AquaMail.

Aqua does not create folders on the server on its own -- only if you make it to (the "+" icon on the folders screen).

But there are apps that do -- e.g. K9 Mail (and possibly others).

The folder vanished on it's own again. Before I got to Aquamail I had tried a bunch of other apps including K9. I suppose one of those could have created the folder before i uninstalled it and the syncing just took a few days to persist all the way to my Aquamail app. But it's weird that I never saw the folder on the server itself when logged into the web interface.

Re: I had tried a bunch of other apps including K9

As far as I know, K9 does not try to detect "standard" server folders -- and creates them as needed.
