Forward puts cursor in message body not To
« on: May 12, 2017, 04:58:24 am »
Version 1.9.1-360. A minor problem but it just appeared in this release. When I forward an email, the cursor used to (and should) be positioned in the To section; instead, it is positioned in the Message Body. Thanks.

We've had occasional reports of this in the past but never able to reproduce.

What's your phone make / model / Android version / soft keyboard?

In version 1.10.0.378-dev the cursor is properly positioned in the "To-field" when forwarding a message.

Phone: Sony / Xperia XZ / Android 7.1.1 / SwiftKey 6.5.8.26

Sounds like there is an extra "tab" or "carriage return"  getting parsed in there somewhere with your device.  Your keyboard app may be sending it, and not Aqua Mail.  This may be why it is a frustrating bug to reveal.  I have full confidence that Kostya can fix it, if you can narrow it down with more details.  Give him your keyboard app nam, any background apps you have, expecially antivirus and malware scanners, also give him the specific device make, model, revision, and Android version.

Android Samsung S2 Tablet under Verizon Wireless. Model number SM-T817V. Android version 6.0.1. Baseband version: T817VVRS2BPL1.

Keyboard: Hacker's keyboard.

Have used Aqua-Mail for years and it never did this, but it's consistent now with Version 1.9.1-360. Obviously, it's correct for cursor to be in Message Body on Reply or Reply All, but not for Forward. No other apps have changed.

I don't think a screen shot would help you. Anything else I can send? This is not a huge thing, so if you can't find it, don't spend too much time. Thanks for all you do.

Just to let you know:
Using a similar Samsung Tab S2 (SM-T813), Android 7 (before Android 6.0.1) - In the past until today I never encountered the issue you described. (now on version 382).

What happens, if you switch to another keyboard before tapping on "forward"?

I am using the pro version of Aqua Mail, and I use the same "Hacker's Keyboard"  on a Samsung Galaxy Note Pro.  I do not get the same result with that app, so I think the keyboard app is likely alright, and not the cause.

Reverted back to default Samsung keyboard and the problem is the same.

Sorry still cannot repro - tried a Samsung SM-T705 6.0.1, as close to your tablet as I have.

Hello Kostya,
The cursor is not placed correctly for forwarding. I select  a forwarding address from a SwiftKey suggestion, then have to delete it from the message box and do it again after moving the cursor. This was not always the case. The cursor is placed before the keyboard is selected.
It may not be a serious bug but it makes me cranky tbe rest of the day. When I get over it, it happens again!

@kw

Just tried it - on a Nexus 5x with 8.1, Google Keyboard and SwiftKey and the cursor was in the To field.

Re: This was not always the case.

I've never seen it any other way except how it's working now for me, correctly. Maybe it's caused by some other software on your phone?
