After having setup AquaMail a while ago I revisted my Android 5.1 settings now again.

Much to my surprise I found now in my Smartphone TWO Accounts from AquaMail (have a look at the attached snapshots).

Why?

Furthermore when I go into Aquamail App I found two email account entries. I would have  expected only one.
What are there two?

I could imagine as reason that I setup recently the same account on a second Android device (=a Tablet).
This Tablet connects to the same gmail account and possibly duplicates therefore the accounts on my SmartPhone.
I am accessing GMail account from Smartphone by POP3 whereas I use IMAP from Tablet.
Maybe these two different protocols cause the confusion.

Is this possible?

How can I get rid of the second account INSIDE AquaMail?

Thank you
Peter

The reason seems to be because your two accounts are configured with two different connection protocol types:
1 - as Gmail or Google apps
2 - as Internet mail (IMAP or POP3)

AquaMail supports up to 4 different kinds of connection types:

Peter,
Solving your issue *should* be easy:

1. Check your two accounts in Aqua Mail which connection protocol (POP3 <> Gmail IMAP) they are using:
> long press on Account name > Options and folders > which item (second one from the bottom) will you see?

2. To delete the account, which you don't want to use on your phone:
> long press on the respective Account name > click on "Delete account"

I recommend to delete the identified "POP3" account.

Peter,
1. There is no direct or indirect connection between the configuration settings of your two different devices (Tablet and Phone).

2. I strongly recommend to setup the connection to your Gmail account with the same protocol on both devices: please use 'Internet mail" (IMAP)

You will find several postings/discussions here in the forum about the reasons and the advantage for using IMAP on different email clients connecting to the same webmail account.

Re: There is no direct or indirect connection between the configuration settings of your two different devices

Yes, correct, AquaMail on each device is fully independent of AquaMail on other devices.

That being said, what are your accounts on the app's main screen (account list) and how are they set up?

A Gmail account added as "Gmail / Google Apps" will show in system accounts as "AquaMail (Gmail)", this uses Google's preferred OAUTH to log in.

A Gmail (or any other) account added as "Internet Mail" (which then gives you the choice of IMAP or POP3) will show in system accounts as "AquaMail (Internet Mail)", and does not use OAUTH.
