Setup GoDaddy Outlook 365
« on: April 19, 2016, 08:48:47 pm »
I have read the FAQ on this topic, but always receive Authenitcation Error 535.

I am using pro.

Please list all the parameters I will need including AUTHENTICATION for Aqua Mail.  I have it working fine with two other accounts (one a POP, one Gmail), but not the GoDaddy 365.

Thank you.  Other than this issue, I love AquaMail and will recommend it widely.

AquaMail does not support Exchange ActiveSync

Since I'm not sure if Godaddy allows to connect to your account using Exchange web service (EWS) - which AquaMail is supporting - I recommend to access your account using the IMAP protocol.

How to configure an IMAP ccount:

Menu > Add an account
Choose 'Internet mail"

Username:
Your full email address

Password:
Your email account password

Press "MANUAL"

On the next screen you should check predefined configuration

Incoming Mail Server:
imap.secureserver.net
-> change to: outlook.office365.com (for "GoDaddy365")

Incoming Port:
Without SSL - 143
With SSL - 993 [recommended]

Press "NEXT"

Outgoing Mail Server:
smtpout.secureserver.net
-> change to: outlook.office365.com (for "GoDaddy365")

Outgoing Port:
Without SSL - one of the following:25, 80, 3535
With SSL - 465 [recommended]

Press "NEXT'

Edit "Your name" and" Account name"

Press "Save"

Update ;
Incoming + Outgoing/SMTP Server names for "GoDaddy365"[/i]

For Exchange type access, GoDaddy seems to be a reseller of Office 365.

You will want to use the "Exchange" account type, then press Manual after entering your email and password, and change the server name to "outlook.office365.com".

---

For IMAP access:

Enter your email and password, press Manual and double check your settings.

This GoDaddy 365 is brand new (to me, anyway), and I don't know what server names (and other settings) you're supposed to use.

Would be best to check with GoDaddy support.

If you ever find out, please post a follow-up so I can hopefully add an automatic preset to Aqua.

However, what @mikeone posted are the right (to the best of my knowledge) settings for GoDaddy IMAP / SMTP, just not specific to their "GoDaddy 365" product line.

It looks like GoDaddy offers two different products: Office 365 and Workspace. See the note at the top of this page:
https://www.godaddy.com/help/android-setting-up-workspace-email-4906

I.e., I am not sure if IMAP for Workspace (the one listed by Mikeone) would provide access to the Office 365 e-mail.
Here it explains how to obtain IMAP server settings for Office 365 e-mail, claiming that they are different:
https://www.godaddy.com/help/locating-office-365-from-godaddy-imap-or-pop-settings-9012

(They made it really complicated...)

Many thanks for the quick response.  Here's where I am:

Yes GD has two different emails: Workspace Email (which I do not have) and Office 365 email and productivity (which I have)

The login from GD goes to outlook.office.com/owa/...
From OPTIONS it reports three approaches:

POP outlook.office365.com, port 995, SSL,
IMAP same server, port 993, SSL, and
SMTP smtp.office365.com, port 587, TLS
I have had no success with these.

I am attaching screen shots.  Of my setup in AquaMail.  Note I am asked for Authentication but don't know what to select (I let it default).  I am using Pro Version 1.6.1.5  Is that correct?

I am more than willing to to work this through and document what works once we have resolved it.  Also I have no PREDEFINED CONFIGURATION box.

FAQ.  BTW: I did review your FAQ for GD.  I was pleased to find it, shows your committment to your customers.  Sadly, no joy.  This has become a personal challenge to me so I'll gladly work with anyone who has a good idea and report out my results.

Thank you

That's Office 365.

I've got an account there, works fine with any of: EWS (Exchange account type in AquaMail), IMAP, POP3 (Internet Mail account type).

The server is outlook.office365.com for all of those.

What does GoDaddy support say about this?

Full settings just in case (those are already baked into the app, and it should be able to recognize Office 365 even if it's GoDaddy making the sale):

EWS (Exchange):

outlook.office365.com
Security: SSL (strict)
Port: 443

IMAP:

outlook.office365.com
Security: SSL (strict)
Port: 993

POP3:

Port: 995

SMTP (sending):

Security: STARTTLS
Port: 587

Trying EWS per parms above, AM reports: "Account check error, authentication error HTTP/1.1 401

Go Daddy support points me to looking up the parms as I described above.  Using those parms I am able to get Android Native email to work fine.  That's where their support stops.  They support native or the Outlook app for Android.  As I say, they both work well.

1-Is my release of AM the same one we are discussing?  Or do I need a different version?

2-Am I correct that the AUTHENTICATION parm is left to default of CHOOSE AUTOMATICALLY?

So they don't want to support it at the protocol level, how nice.

( aside: and which "native" do they support? Nexus, Sony, Samsung, LG, Huawei, Motorola, Gmail app? Those are all different )

Maybe EWS is not even available for these GoDaddy 365 accounts? Turned off?

Yes, the version is fine, Aqua has worked with Office 365 for a year or two now.

Yes, the "automatic" authentication is fine too.

I just found out why Aqua isn't able to discover that your account is Office 365 (to fill in the server names automatically).

The MX record for your domain has a "priority" of zero (0), not valid as far as I know. Will add a workaround on my side.

I am Android.  They support "Native email on Android".

You are going to workaround the limitation in GD?  Well that makes my day.  I'll report out complete details at the end.

Many thousand thanks.

Re: I am Android.  They support "Native email on Android".

What I'm saying is: depending on the device's manufacturer, this "native email on Android" is about a dozen different apps.

Re: You are going to workaround the limitation in GD

Only one specific part: AquaMail not detecting that your domain's email is hosted on Office 365, and not being able to prefill server settings.

On the actual issue, afraid I don't have any news.

Like I said, "real" Office 365 + AquaMail = just fine, for about two years.

---

Guess what I would do is ask GD support *specifically* about support for the EWS (Exchange Web Services) protocol.

This is a standard part of Exchange, a standard part of Office 365, but who knows, maybe this GD-flavored Office 365 has EWS (as well as IMAP / SMTP) turned off.

Just a guess, I have no way to actually "know" this. But GD support "should".

GD Tech support assures me that IMAP and smtp are enabled.

They refer to this exchange as "Cloud-Based Exchange".  Does that help?

Re: GD Tech support assures me that IMAP and smtp are enabled.

Then I see no reason why you should not be able to set up the account as IMAP / SMTP (not Exchange).

IMAP / SMTP is "Internet Mail" account type in AquaMail, and you will want to press Manual after entering your email + password and then change both servers (incoming, IMAP and outgoing, SMTP) to outlook.office365.com.

I am able to use these settings, no problem whatsoever, with my Office 365 account.

Re: Cloud-Based Exchange

They can shove the marketing speak up their... air conditioning system (or whatever).

The question was / is: does GD's 365 have EWS (Exchange Web Services) enabled?

Office 365 (not GD 365, or Some Other Name 365) does have EWS, and me and others have been using it for years.
