Already a longer time ago I've noticed, that if I embed some images (inline) in an email message and send it (by Aqua mail, Google email accounts), it's size does not reflect the size of the inlined images and is e.g. just a few hundreds of bytes. Quite obvious case is when I send the message to myself - when received, the size immediately rises, taking the embedded image into account.
Replying the message has the same effect. I can reply a message with embedded image multiple times, its size rises a bit because of quoting the previous contents, but still excludes the image size. The received messages show correct size. (Although the two have actually identical message source.)
When I take a look at the outbox with Thunderbird, the emails have correct size. Apparently Aqua ignores the size of embedded MIME parts, nor does it count against the size of attachments.
