How to purge "Ghost" email contacts?
« on: April 17, 2015, 04:48:39 pm »
Using Samsung Note4

When sending a new message, I click on the face+ symbol to display a contact.

However, what is displayed is a  list of around 10 previous email addresses which I haven't used for years!    How do I completely DELETE that "cached" information?  (Those addresses are NOT listed in my "Contacts" -- are they stuck in some memory cache somewhere?

Thanks

If they're listed under Contacts in the contact picker, then they come from system Contacts.

I find that Android's Contacts app doesn't always display all existing contacts.

Please try searching for those here:

http://google.com/contacts

( logging in with the @gmail account you have in the device's system settings )

Thanks for your reply!

Ok, I have learned something new from you.

Now I have 2 questions:

(a) How can I tell my phone NOT to synch CONTACTS with GOOGLE at all?

(b) How can I turn OFF the "auto-complete" function on the phone when starting to type in an email address ?  I do NOT want the phone to "remember" previous typed addresses?

Thanks so much for answering my (a) question!

Well done, and I appreciate it.

I guess maybe I should post my (b) question as a separate question on this forum?

(b) How can I turn OFF the "auto-complete" function on the phone when starting to type in an email address ?  I do NOT want the phone to "remember" previous typed addresses?  How can I PURGE (delete) that memory-resident list of previous email addresses used on the phone?  (They are NOT found in my contacts--obviously some sort of memory cache)

Um, sorry, there is no setting for this in Aqua :)

But if you purge the addresses, then there will be nothing to auto-complete from.

"memory-resident list of previous email addresses used on the phone"???

Aqua doesn't keep one, if you click "recents" in the app's own contact picker, it actually scans your recent messages right then and there. There is no cache.

As for how to purge your already synced contacts after turning off Gmail contact sync -- sorry, I don't know.
