Lost Status bar Icon
« on: April 25, 2014, 12:36:29 pm »
Contrary to everyone else here I want the little notification icon on my status bar and somehow I have lost it. There is no longer anything notifying me of new mail just from looking at the status bar and I'd like to get it back.
I expect it is is my fault but I have now uninstalled, re-installed, gone back to older versions and still can't get it back.
I saw a forum entry about JB status bar controls but I only have Android 4.0.3 on a samsung galaxy tab 10.1.
The toast messages still work and the count of arrived messages from the pull down on the status bar still works, I've just lost the little icon (that everyone else want to get rid of).
Does anybody have any ideas what else I could try in order to get this back again? Thanks very much for any help

Are you talking about the blue @ sign, whose notification is "Push mail: <account here>"?

This shows when you have one or more accounts configured for push mail. By itself, the icon has no value -- the push mail feature is the real "content" here.

Things to check:

- App settings -> mail, receiving -> IMAP push (scroll down to see it)
- Long press the account -> options and folders -> account options -> IMAP push
- Options and folders -> folders -> make sure you see "IMAP push" under the Inbox. If not, tap the settings (wrench / gear) icon on the right and enable it.

I wasn't sure if that was the icon I was really looking for so checked on my phone. The Icon I have lost is actually a little envelope with an A in it that on my phone, and previously on my tablet, would be present in the status bar when I got new mail (or more specifically when aquamail downloaded the mail from the server). I checked the settings that you mention but it made no difference and I am not sure this can be it because some of the accounts I have do not support the IMAP push feature anyway and yet I had always had the icon.
Are there any other reasons, would it possible to submit this as a bug?

Well seems like most things it from having thumbs that are too big or the screen doing something when you are not watching. On the Galaxy Tab it I found there is a whole row of information indicators which actually slide sideways to give you access to other items (like turning the information icons off).  So sliding the line of indicators wireless, brightness etc sideways allowed me to tun on the information indicators again. Always something so simple.

Ah. So many different devices, and so much manufacturer specific customization :)
