Rich Text?
« on: August 28, 2013, 04:53:51 am »
Does Aqua-mail support rich text in the compose mode?  I can receive rich text messages in Gmail on my android phone - Samsung Galaxy Skyrocket, and my tablet - ASUS Tranformer Pad tf300t, but I cannot compose rich text mail messages.  Some info I saw in a Google search led me to believe Aqua-mail might be able to do this, but other info seems to indicate that sending rich text email is not a feature supported in android.  I often send rich text messages (bulleted lists, bold, italic or underlined words, etc.), but from my pc, using Gmail in windows.

I am considering switching to Aqua-mail for my tablet, but this rich text question is the only real reason I would do so.

Thanks very much for any information which might help.

This is done (first cut: no embedded images yet, and no pretty lists, sorry) and will be released soon.

For now, please see the "development builds" section on this forum.

Kostya, thank you for your very helpful reply.

I went to the Development Build forums and downloaded and installed 1.2.4.41.apk, which seems to be the one which features rich text composing (I wasn't sure about 1.2.4.42).  I also went on Google Play and purchased the Pro unlock key and installed it.

I like the rich text features you have implemented - they give me the ability to do most of what I would want to do when composing a new email on my ASUS tablet.  I just have one or two questions, which I hope you will be able to help with.

  • Is it possible to create a more complex document in a Microsoft Word compatible app, like Quick Office Pro,and copy / paste the text into Aqua-Mail?  I tried this a few weeks ago with Gmail, and it didn't work, I could copy from Quick Office Pro to the clipboard, but could not past in the compose window in Gmail, either by long clicking or by pressing Ctrl-V.  It would be great if that worked, but I don't seem to be able to do it in Gmail.  I didn't try yet in Aqua-mail.
  • Failing copy / past, is it possible to indent the margins for some of the paragraphs in an email?  If one paragraph were a topic heading, and the following several paragraphs were sub-topics, it would make the email easier to read  and understand, if the sub-topics could be indented.

I suppose I could get around all of this by making the more complex document an attachment, and staying with fairly simple cover emails.  Just trying to figure out how to make the most efficient use of my tablet, to which I am fairly new.

Thanks for your help.

George,

Thank you.

Right now there is no paragraph formatting at all.

This is only a start, and even though my top priority after this upcoming release is going to be EWS (Exchange), the feature clearly has room for further improvement (embedded images for example).
