Night mode not switching

Hi,  I am using pro version of aquamail on xiaomi android 6.
I have enabled the automatic switching to night mode.

That has stopped working,  in the morning it will not switch to normal mode and at night not to night mode.
If I then go into settings and update the time for night and morning, but leaving the times the same,  aquamail will switch.

I do believe this was working in an earlier version.

The UI will switch only if the app is "completely started from scratch" so to speak -- in other words, for it to happen, you should have closed it with the Back button (at some point in the past).

Is this it maybe?

Thks.  I was not aware.  I have specifically locked the app so it does not get stopped by the system. You are saying I should force a stop and only then will it change?
That's a bit disappointing,  anything you can do about it?

No you do not have to force stop.

Just be sure to close the "window" down with the Back button.

"Minimizing" with Home is not enough, as that keeps the window "running in the background" and it won't be re-created (and so won't get the new theme).
