Show folders in the mail list like Gmail
« on: September 22, 2016, 02:00:04 am »
Hi,

I would like to display the sub folders of the current folder in the main expndable list, like Gmail does.

Is this possible in AquaMail?

I want this because I find it very convenient. I can create random folders inside the inbox and they show up. I know you can view all folders as well as have recently accessed folders in the side menu, but that is not as convenient because naturally recently accessed list does not auto populate and you have to go into each folder manual to make them visible. Then if you delete a folder it's still visible in the recents list.

Viewing all folders and then going into a sub folder of index takes a lot of clicks too.

"I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that."

Sorry, but if I understood what you want correctly (to show subfolders automatically, once you go into a folder that has subfolders), it cannot be done in Aquamail.
But you can choose whichever folders (and subfolders) you want to show up permanently (not just recent).
I just recently explained how to do that (and why folders not being loaded automatically is a Good Thing (tm)) in the thread that is just 5 threads below yours in the same forum: http://www.aqua-mail.com/forum/index.php?topic=4992.msg28877#msg28877

Please let us know if you meant something different.

Hey StR!

Thanks for the quick reply.

I definitely get your point about wasting space and needless syncing. I don't want them either.

However, this is a little different. What I do is, when I purchase something online, I create a folder in the inbox with a name or a reference to that order, and when a new email comes in on that order I just drop it there. This way I can stay organised and keep track of what I am expecting (if I place many orders at once). Once I receive the order, I just move the folder to trash. So it's a temporary folder.

With Gmail those folders in the inbox are immediately visible and quickly accessible as you can see from the screenshots I've attached. They are above the inbox list of e-mails.

That's what I wanted in AquaMail too. To have an option to display folders inline with emails when you go into some folder. Keep in in mind that index in emails is also a "folder", so only folders that are subfolders of index will show up. All your archives that are no store in subfolders of index won't show. Besides that of course, Gmail does not sync until you go into that folder, so the space is not wasted.
