Can you clarify what you mean and where you'd like this picture to show?

1 - For others who read your messages?

2 - In the "account list side panel" in the app, new in 1.6.1?

For 1, and if this is a Gmail account, please set it in Google +.

For 2, if it's a Gmail account, see #1, otherwise (a non-Gmail account), just create en entry for this address in the phone's Contacts and set a picture there.
