Help needed preserving e-mails
« on: October 28, 2015, 09:20:59 pm »
Kostya,

Sorry, this goes well beyond the support for the program itself, but I hope you can help.
I have a non-standard situation, and I don't have much latitude to experiment with it, I don't want to risk loosing even what I have. Hence the questions about Aquamail's behavior in this case.

Situation: I have IMAP-based account configured in Aquamail. A number of messages are on the phone. The server is unavailable, and there is a big chance that the current mailbox might be lost. So, I am trying to preserve those messages that are on the phone from being removed by Aquamail when the replacement mailserver comes online, and Aquamail syncs to it.
What are my options for that?

1. What can I configure in Aquamail to avoid removal of the messages even before Aquamail will have a chance of connecting? (I am not sure what, besides explicit "compact database" can triggering removal of older messages)

2. What can I configure or do in Aquamail so the messages are not deleted when the server comes online (with an empty mailbox).

3. My phone is not rooted (XT-907). Is there some way of preserving the Aquamail database by making a copy using something like ES File Explorer? (I was not able to find it, except for the folder called "parts" that seems to contain various attachments: /sdcard/Android/data/org.kman.AquaMail/parts ) I suspect the answer is "no", but just in case.

4. Any scenario of how I can place all these messages back on the server (e.g. by moving all messages in a separate folder that would get synced)?

Hi StR,
I'm not sure, however this thread could have some interesting information for your specific situation:
http://www.aqua-mail.com/forum/index.php?topic=3604.0

... ending finally with a special "backup enabled" apk-file provided by Kostya.

The very last known "special" apk-file (dated 6th October 2015) you will find here:
http://www.aqua-mail.com/download/AquaMail-marketBackup-1.5.9.14-2.apk

Mikeone, - thanks for the pointers, I started reading that long thread.

Also, - I forgot to mention, my phone is running Android 4.1.2.

If this approach could solve your problem I assume Kostya would provide you with an updated "backup enabled" apk-file.

Thanks again, the situation has resolved itself in a good way: the server was rescued. So, no mail was lost except the one that already bounced.
