Enable IMAP Push for Hotmail
« on: July 31, 2014, 08:08:58 pm »
I saw the new build notes saying that IMAP push is now enabled for Hotmail.

I have deleted and re-added my account and then go to Options and Folders > Account Options > and "IMAP Push" is greyed out and says "This server does not support IMAP Push".

Is it not actually working with the new build even though the notes said it was?

I am in the same predicament as you are, except mine is with Charter email. All 5 of my other accounts allow me to use IMAP Push, but I think with Charter, their server does not support the IDLE extension. Perhaps the same is true for Hotmail? Maybe Kostya has a quick answer for us. I don't understand why an IMAP server wouldn't have IMAP Push. If this is the case, I might as well go back to POP3  :P

Yes, the IMAP server behind Outlook.com / Hotmail does *not* support IMAP IDLE.

Hey, it's a miracle they implemented IMAP at all. And that they recently finally fixed some issues with moving messages between folders (the UIDPLUS extension and working SEARCH by Message-ID). A double miracle.
