Touchwiz on Samsung S4 mini and version 1.4.0.30
« on: July 17, 2014, 05:51:34 am »
I just updated to version 1.4.0.30 on my Samsung S4 mini and now get the error message "Unfortunately, TouchWiz Home has Stopped".  This happened after I upgraded last time, however within minutes you had released an upgrade that fixed the problem.

I have no idea how to get around this error message that keeps popping up (every few minutes).  Can you please help?

Thanks,
Katie

Just a followup on this.

I tried all sort of suggestions to get rid of this recurring error message that people had posted on the internet -- none of them worked.  Then I rolled back to version 1.3.8 of AquaMail and that fixed it.  So, there's definitely something going on with recent versions of AM and Android 4.4.2 running on a Samsung S4 mini (and probably other Samsung devices with TocuhWiz).

Thank you Katie, and I'm now starting to regret ever implementing this.

It's just that there were so many questions about it -- "But Samsung's email does it just fine!" etc.

The feature to put unread counters on the icon is undocumented, intended by Samsung for their own software only.

It worked fine on my test devices, from 4.2 to 4.4, and no complaints during testing on the forum (prior to releasing to Play) but.....

Version 1.3.8 never did any interaction with TouchWiz.

Wonder if I'll need to make the default "off" again and deal with a new onslaught of mail messages.

Kostya,

I tired turning off the TouchWiz option in version 1.4.0.30 because I figured that would fix the problem, but it didn't.  There are so many combinations of Android versions and devices out, it has to be maddening trying to keep them all working as a developer.

I do, however, greatly appreciate all the work you've put into product this and LOVE it!  I also appreciate that you had the prior version available to download.  Maybe keeping the last several versions available will help please more people.

Thanks!
-Katie

Katie -- you've totally right about the different combos -- Google Play lists 6500 compatible devices, then multiply that by the the firmware variations (often country / carrier specific even for the same phone / tablet model).

I actually have an S4 Mini, but it's the "Black Edition" with LTE and it runs 4.2. Works fine.

Now something a bit more relevant:

The trick on the devices where touching TouchWiz causes it to crash is to not touch it at all.

However, all existing versions of Aqua, when you turn off that setting  -- even right after installing -- will send a "0" (none) value to TouchWiz.

Apparently this can be enough to make TouchWiz crash (on some devices).

What I'm going to do is make the app smarter -- so that if you do a fresh install of Aqua, and immediately turn the "launcher counters" setting off, it will know that it's never sent any data to TouchWiz, and so won't be trying to reset the counter to 0, it will just leave it alone.

Turn it off for all by default.
Do you want to use the latest AquaMail version?
Try AquaMail Updater!

At this point, the cat is already out of the bag, and any actual issues (like Katie described above) seem fairly rare.

I'll keep an eye out for that version......
