Questions from new user
« on: August 10, 2013, 11:10:35 pm »
I'm using a nexus 7 tablet running Android 4.2.2.

I liked Aqua Mail so much that I purchased it. It is excellent! But I'm still not clear about some settings, so here are my questions:

1. In account settings, "reply to". Does this always have to be filled out? Can it be left blank if the reply to address is the same as the sender's?

2. When replying to or writing an email, the notification bar at the top of my nexus 7 tablet disappears. Is there a setting to leave it visible?

3. Spam control: is there a way to black list some addresses and select them (or place them at top of list) for deletion? The way Mailwasher does?

4. There is a setting to automatically add "message recipients" to the address book. What do you mean by message recipient? I assume you mean those I send emails to, not those whose emails are received. Correct?

5. I do not understand 2 account settings:
a)  purge when server empty
b)  server delete compatibility
Could you please clarify?

6. How does one add "preset text"?

7. Finally, any chance of adding bold/underline/italic?

Thank you

Jeff

1. If you don't want to have a different reply to than your account used for sending no, you don't change it.
2. That doesn't happen to me but I'm on a phone and don't have a tablet to check.
3. I don't think AM has spam control. AM philosophy is to let those things to the mail provider.
4. Didn't see it but it seems so. We need someone who tried it to confirm it.
5. Don't know.
6. You mean like templates? There is no feature for that.
7. On the TO DO list with low priority AFAIK.

Don't see it. What is the menu item called?
I would find it very handy as writing emails to many firms, the press, official bodies needs postal address, phone number and full name. Usually not needed otherwise. My full address is long and hard to write, unlike the Duke of Wellington in days gone by (No 1, London)!

Insert quick response.

Didn't see it before nor saw it advertised.

Just what I need.
It is essentially snippets like these that I need, though I skipped that menu item because I had not recognised it. I assume these snippets are global, not 'per account'.

Yes, the snippets are global. Never understood why they're per account in the stock Email app.

I also have a Nexus 7 (now with Android 4.3! better taste with fewer calories... ahem....)

1 - Already answered.

2 - Not happening on any of my devices.... Now, viewing incoming messages has a full screen mode (leftmost icon, an X made of four arrows...)

3 - Already answered. You can move messages into the server's Spam folder (menu in message view mode and message list mode when one or more is selected).... The rest depends on the specific mail server (will it adjust its spam filtering rules based on the moved messages?)

4 - Yes, it saves names / addresses of those you send messages to. If you have suggestions for better wording, I'd be happy to hear them.

5 - "Purge when empty" -- remove all locally stored, previously downloaded messages from the app (for this account) if it's found to be empty (no messages) when the app checks mail. Useful to those who use AquaMail, then later use a desktop mail app that deletes all messages from the server after fetching them.

"Server delete compatibility" -- a compatibility setting for Hotmail.
