Phone numbers highlighting
« on: July 19, 2017, 04:53:06 pm »
Hi, good Job! :-)

but still something to fix.

Phone numbers highlighting does not work if they include a slash "/" or a "-" sign.
It would be very nice if Phone-numbers like: 0123/4567890 or 0123-4567890 are recognized too.

THX and have a good time.

Absolutely NOT.   If you interpret a slash '/' or '\' then that is going to  affect URLs and break all kinds of things.  Who is writing phone numbers with a slash?  That is WRONG. Learn the correct way instead of breaking other things to support incompetence.  We already have far too much of that from Android, Google, and Microsoft.

Agreed.

Phone number highlighting should really be done by sender - using an HTML <A> tag with "tel" scheme. Or "sms" (as appropriate).

Please consider Aqua's highlighting a "last resort, convenience feature" if the sender didn't bother to do it.

And in any case, it's still possible to highlight and piece of text and copy / paste into the Phone app.

While I agree with the rest of what was said, - but I consider Aquamail's highlighting as not the "last resort", but rather as an important feature. I still send plain-text messages (and prefer receiving them that way for the most part), and if someone writes his/her phone number, I don't expect those to be html-coded.

Agree, that's the way i proceed.
But in Germany, 0123/456789 is unfortunately a often used way to write PhoneNumbers.
And unfortunately it is hopeless to teach all  different senders something different ...

I still send plain-text messages (and prefer receiving them that way for the most part), and if someone writes his/her phone number, I don't expect those to be html-coded.

This is also my preference

Nevertheless, thanks for your and the other Answers

In Germany there is a DIN 5008 which has "recently" changed the recommendations for the spelling of telephone numbers in 2011:

local:                 0451 223344
direct dial:        0451 223344-144
international:    +49 451 223344
mobile:              0171 223344

-> see attached overview

Sorry this doesn't change how the forward slash is also often used in web links.

Using slash ("/'") as a separator within phone numbers are - even in Germany - as outdated as using a blank line in an adress field between the "Street" and "ZIP code / City) lines  8) 8)
