How to determine the folder for "Sent Objects"
« on: November 17, 2016, 09:07:48 pm »
I am having difficulties with my sent messages. In Outlook I use a folder called "Gesendete Elemente" which is German and translates to "Sent Object". I would like Aqua Mail to use this folder as well so all message I send with my phone can also be seen in Outlook. However, when I long press my e-mail account, go to "Options and Folders" and then to "Folders" I can see the folder "Gesendete Objekte" but I cannot determine it as the folder for my sent messages. All I can do is to click "Sync this folder with Gesendet". "Gesendet" is a different folder. But I want to sync it with "Gesendete Elemente". Why can't I just pick the folder I want to be used for my outgoing messages? I don't get it...

I would like to add the following: When I long press my e-mail account, go to "Options and Folders" and then to "Compose and Send" I can click "Save sent messages to Gesendet". I can either chose this folder as destination or I don't. If I don't click it none of the messages I send with my phone will be saved at all. If I do click it the messages go to a different folder than Outlook. Is there a way to pick the folder I want to save my send messages to? That shouldn't be rocket science...

You need to establish correct "mapping" of the Aquamail folder [Sent] to the corresponding folder on the server. If I understand correctly German words, - "Sync this folder with Gesendet" - is exactly what you want to choose: "Sync this folder with Sent", where Sent is meant to be Aquamail's local folder [Sent]. If you have a different folder "Sent" on the server, it doesn't matter. That the folder on the server that is not related to [Sent] (unless you link them explicitly, or Aquamail does that at the initial state of installation).
Different e-mail programs can have different names for the "Sent" folder, even within one language (Sent, Sent Mail, sent-mail in English). Aquamail doesn't create one of its own but allows you to choose which folder to sync with.

I hope this helps.

It seems the problem is exactly that Aqua Mail does not allow you to chose the folder. I can only click that my mails gets synced with a folder called "Gesendet". But this is not the folder I want. Indeed there are different folders for my sent object like "Sent", "Sent Objects", "Gesendet" and "Gesendete Elemente". I would like to chose the folder "Gesendete Elemente". But that is not possible. I can only decide to have it synced with a folder caller "Gesendet" or not. There is no way to select a different folder. I really don't understand this. When I uses for example K9 or Outlook for Android there is a function where I can freely chose the folder for my sent messages. When I click that button it shows me the IMAP structure of my e-mail account with all the folders I listed above. Now I simply select the folder I want and all sent messages go now to this folder. In Aqua Mail I cannot find such a function. It only allows my to chose "Save sent messages to Gesendet". So the only folder option I have is "Gesendet". But that is not the folder I want. If I don't click that sent messages do not get saved at all. Am I the only one having this issue?

You see that first "Gesendet" (line #2 on your first screenshot)?
That's your Aquamail's "local" folder. Its name is "fixed". (And it has nothing to do with the second "Gesendet" down the list - that one is on the server.

Now, your Gesendete Elemente is chosen to be "synchronized as a regular folder". Instead you want to choose it to synchronize to "Gesendet" (it will mean that you are mapping it to sync with the local Aquamail one).
You will see then that on the second line of the 1st screenshot "Gesendet" will have note under it: "Sync mit Ordner [Gesendete Elemente]".

Your sent messages will be saved to "Gesendete Elemente" on the server (but on Aquamail they will appear in its "Gesendete").
