Search on server-side?
« on: July 05, 2013, 09:20:20 am »
How do I search for messages on the server? Currently, if I hit the search button only the locally stored messages are searched. Is there any option I have to enable before I can search messages on the server?

Thanks for you answer,
Squee

Searching on server only works with IMAP.
Also you have to open the folder in which you want to search. Check it out. AM searches at first locally and than on the server.

Did I get this right, that I can't search within the whole IMAP account? I have to select a folder first? Unfortunately, that won't work with my search habits. Normally, I search for an email, I know I received but I can't remember which folder I moved it to.

Yes, as far as i know and tested  you have to open the folder in which you want to search on the server. That is not necessary for local search.
Would be a nice feature if entire IMAP Account search is possible.

Hi, I have an IMAP account hosted by blue host. The search on server feature worked for a couple of years until several months ago it started timing out. Is this known to be broken within aqua mail? I don't think it is my server as I can search quickly using other clients. Any advice? Thanks!

Aqua will use something called "ESEARCH" (enhanced search) if the server says it supports it, to speed things up and save traffic.

Can't speak for all apps, but K9 or stock Android Email don't... and then if you're comparing to Cloud Magic or Accompli or MyMail, that's completely different, but I'll spare the details.

I've seen servers that advertise ESEARCH as supported, and yet can't deal with it.

Please try this:

1 - Update to the latest -dev9 version of Aqua

2 - Long press the account -> options and folders -> IMAP options -> turn off "IMAP optimizations". This will disable the use of ESEARCH command.

Or could be something else, of course...
