Title: LDAP connection to contacts database
Post by: ulmus on November 16, 2012, 03:19:10 pm
Hi!
Do you plan instead of android contacts to use connection to LDAP server?
or... simply aquamail contacts with import/export?
I dont like to use android/telephone contacts in email app. Option to have contacts unbounded with telephone contacts will be fine thing to me, and LDAP will be the best:)

Hi,

No plans at this time -- the app integrates with Android contacts. It doesn't really care where these contacts come from though, so if there are any sync adapters that can talk to LDAP, it *should* see those.

I tried 'contacts in line' with ldap plug in, works great, i can search etc, but aqua-mail says that contact has no email address! Strange, cause it has for sure!

If you bring up the contacts app, do those contacts (pulled up from LDAP) have email addresses?

How do they show -- same way as emails in other contacts, e.g. with a "work" / "personal" label, etc?

I don't have an LDAP server handy, or I'd try it myself -- so any info you can provide to shed light on this is welcome.

When i open contact from ldap i can see that email is in not standard prperty titled 'E-mail'. It is only online contact, not imported into android. When i click on picture to add address when i am composing new email, then i can choose from where to pick up the address: from android contacts or ldap, i am choising ldap and i can see email , then when i try to get it then aqua-mail says no email this contact has.

Do you have a link to the app?

Are you able to click the email for an LDAP contact to create a mail message?

Ok, that's clearer.

I'd be happy to fix the picking and autocomplete (which I assume might be broken too), but need some info.

Could you contact the author of the LDAP app and ask "what mime type he's using to store the email address in the Android contacts database"?

This is what I need. Thanks in advance.

You will better talk to each other.
I am using 'contacts in line' with ldap plug-in, here is the link:
