When I have selected emails I can see some icons in the toolbar (see an attached screenshot)
How can I customize set of actions in the toolbar?
-
Tap the three dots in the upper-right of the main window > settings > message view > customize the buttons

Doesn't work :(

You'll have to be a little more specific. What exactly doesn't work? Have you followed my instructions exactly? Because I can add and/or remove icons with no problems.
What version of AM are you using?

Hi Phred.
Are you sure that your solution is for the toolbar which become visible when user has selected one or couple emails in email list?
I did specifically what you said.
And I have the most recent version, of course.

This is for the Message List. The list where all the messages are shown. Posting a screenshot of the view you're expecting to see the icons will help me (and others) understand exactly what view you're referring to.

I believe he is talking about the SmartBox (or any mail account) where selecting an email gives you this bar on top (see attachment)
With one of the newer updates, one or two icons were added to that. For me, this disrupted my muscle memory and having five buttons up there (of which I only ever use two) means that I actually have to look up and identify the one I am looking for.
Being able to remove buttons from there would be very helpful

Yes, markus123, you are right.
Absolutely correct answer. Thanks.
And yes, I have the same problems with these two new icons, as I used to use this toolbar heavily for years.

Thank you both for clarifying this issue. I guess you'll have to wait for Kostya to chime in on if there are plans to make the icon choice an option.

Yes. Same "icons in action mode" are used when you select text for copy / paste / etc. and there were complaints that some of the icons got pushed into the overflow (three dots).

Well the set of available "commands" can't really be a setting, they depend on the states of selected messages (read / unread / starred) and account features (is there an archive folder? a spam folder?)
And then "as many as possible" are shown as icons - and the rest are shown in the overflow (three dots).

Thanks for looking into this.

Personally, I find that it is now too crowded. Without the gaps, it is now difficult to hit the correct button without searching for it first. Any chance we can get an option to limit the number of buttons there or simply to toggle the old behavior?

Sorry I really don't like the idea of YAS (Yet Another Setting). The spacing is standard per Google's guidelines, and yes it can seem a bit close. But we can't reinvent every aspect of the UI (or have an option for that).
