Title: Auto empty trash on exit doesn't work
Post by: lotech on March 15, 2018, 02:07:25 am
Hi there,

I asked this question before but I still can't make it work, I can't find the thread again so I ask again here.

I have a IMAP a/c and set to empty trash on exit but that never worked, I need to delete the same messge twices each time, even worst with Gmail but this is out of AM's control I know. I  sync the trash folder with server, so if I delete with PC AM will delete the message too, but I want to auto empty trash on exit that's a basic for every mail client but never worked with AM, is this not possible to do with IMAP or what am I missing here ?

Empty on exist does not - deliberately - apply to *server* Deleted folders

Because:

You might have moved messages into *server* Deleted folders using web mail or other mail apps, and those messages might not be in Aqua.

So we don't want to delete (potentially existing) messages that the user didn't have a chance to see. Dangerous.

Menu -> Purge deleted from the app's main screen still works, explicit action -> user is responsible for his / her actions.

Please note that many mail services (e.g. GMail) automatically delete any old (older than 30 days) messages from Trash, without you or mail apps having to do anything.
