the connection to the email account worked fine until yesterday.

Ok so my issue was new MFA in outlook 365. This was fixed in a dev build. https://www.aqua-mail.com/download/AquaMail-market-1.14.0-750-dev-95ece5523b20.apk

Which worked fine for me.
