Title: Purge deleted mail on exit doesn't work
Post by: lotech on June 30, 2017, 10:28:30 pm
Ho there,

I am using the Pro version on Android device, I have setup multiple IMAP a/c, I enabled purge deleted mail when exit with "back" but it never works, I have to manually clean the trash everytime, what's wrong in here ?

Purge Deleted with back *intentionally* only works on *local* Deleted folders -- i.e. those not synced with the server which is typical for IMAP.

Reason?

"I moved a few valuable messages to Deleted using web mail, since that's a safe and proper place for storing most important messages... And then Aqua Mail deleted them all, what the hell?"

Menu -> Purge Deleted does work on IMAP / EWS / synced Deleted folders, since there is an explicit confirmation by the user.

Re: Do you mean that" purge deleted with back" is limited to POP3?

Either POP3 or IMAP where Deleted isn't set to sync with the server.

Move valuable messages to the the "Deleted" folder?  I must be missing something.  Gmail deletes emails in the "Deleted" folder after 30 days.  AOL webmail deletes them, too, although I don't know the interval.  Doesn't sound like a safe place to store things.

Am I misunderstanding that person's statement?  I would think you want to make a separate folder and move them there, not to the "Deleted" folder.

You are!

Don't you know that's the best place for valuable emails?

Just like on Windows - you put your most valuable Word / Excel docs into the Trash container, to keep them safe?

I wonder if that would prevent those files from being encrypted by ransomware programs.

Thank guys for the reply, sorry I did not respond earlier, I thought I will receive notification on reply by default, the forum works differently anyway...

Is that really a bug or I am missing something ? I use only IMAP and want to sync all folders with the server including the trash, and want the trash to empty itself when I exit the app, what should I do to achieve that ?  please treat me like a noob, Aqua mail is quite complex to use compare with other mail clients I used, there are too many settings I think unnecessary being a mobile app.

But you can use Menu -> Purge Deleted - which does work on all types of accounts / folder sync settings.

Also please note that many mail services - *automatically* purge deleted / spam messages without any required help from mail app(s).
