Title: Outlook calendar and contacts
Post by: redhotguitar on May 08, 2017, 04:25:52 pm
Is there anyway to sync a normal outlook calendar and contacts in aqua mail? Or does this only work for special office365 accounts?

There is no such thing as "Outlook Calendar / Contacts" in the context of "Outlook for Windows".

Mail apps do not sync with each other directly - they sync with a common data store "somewhere else", the mail server.

Aqua Mail supports Contacts and Calendar sync for any Exchange account, not only Office 365.

Whether your *account* is of Exchange type or not I don't know.

Now it seems there are apps that will sync data with whatever's "inside your Outlook for Windows" specifically.

( and there may be others too )

If you use Outlook/Exchange, Aqua Mail syncs you calendar and contacts if you tell it to do so. However, Aqua Mail does not display calendar and contacts. Usually there are apps on your phone/tablet for displaying calendar and contacts. If you specify "Aqua Mail" in the settings of those apps (usually found under "Accounts"), you can view your synchronized calendar and contacts.

You may also synchronize your tasks and notes with Outlook/Exchange. I use the app "Task & Notes" for doing so.

Thank you for your responses

It's just a normal free hotmail account. I can't seem to get the contacts and calendar to work. It works in other email apps though. Has anyone else had any luck?

"Hotmail" in Aqua Mail use IMAP / SMTP, i.e. "Internet Mail", which does not provide access to either.

Please remove the account from Aqua and add back as "Exchange" account type, which does.

Re: Why propose IMAP for Hotmail account creation, when Exchange is available and more efficient?

I'm not sure about "more efficient"... but:

We currently can only do OAUTH2 for IMAP / SMTP, not sure if Hotmail's EWS even supports that.

Also, not every user uses Hotmail's Contacts / Calendar.

Also, implications for push mail.

And also, historical. So good question, should we switch? Because of OAUTH2, we won't be able to right now.

@Paris Geek:
AFAIK, the free version of Aquamail doesn't support EWS-Push.
So, the issue would be, - what it should default to when a new user tries the free version first? And should it be "migrated" (i.e. account recreated?) when the users pays for the Pro version? That's a hassle.

But I see your point that for the paid version, EWS might be a better way to use with Hotmail.

Re: 'm asking the question because I experienced heavy battery drain with Hotmail/Imap. The "wheel" of sync used turn during long minutes

Hotmail is having severe performance issues since... what is it, three weeks? Hopefully they will be fixed (just like last time they broke it same exact way).

Re: OAUTH2 and EWS

Our code right now can only do OAUTH2 for IMAP and SMTP. Not POP3 or EWS.

And I'm not even sure if it Hotmail in particular (or Office 365) support OAUTH2.

Re:  And should it be "migrated" (i.e. account recreated?) when the users pays for the Pro version?

The user can always do that. Migrating in place (preserving messages) would be next to impossible.

Re-creating the account is probably doable, but not with OAUTH2, the user will need to log in again (see above).

And the main issue right now is - Hotmail's IMAP performance / broken-ness. Are they going to fix that? Fingers crossed.

Hi,
is it possible to do sync contact's photo (picture) from Outlook (exchange EWS)?

Yes this is supported, works fine for me with Office 365 and Outlook from Office 365 subscription ("latest" I assume).

Depends on the server - for this Aqua Mail needs Exchange 2010 or newer.

In our company when work is exchange 2013 but no office 365 only normal office.
Contacts sync, but images no (not visible in my phone).
I tried to disable contact sync and enable it again, but the images did not sync.

Have I delete account in phone a re-set? I don't known where is problem.

Should work with Exchange 2013 - are you sure about the version?

And Aqua will only sync images for contacts that are actually synced (into your Contacts app), i.e. your personal server side contacts - but won't show images for corporate directory entries (lookup / search on demand).

Are you perhaps expecting images in the corporate directory?

Debug log please, with "raw session data" (please see my signature below for a link to instructions).

With the log enabled, please change the image or name or something about one of your contacts (with an image).

Wait for this to sync to the server (maybe use web mail to check).

On the phone, open Phone Settings -> Accounts -> find your Aqua Mail Exchange account -> turn Contacts sync off and then on.

Wait for it to finish and verify that the change you made (e.g. name) did sync into Android.

Send the debug log to support / aqua-mail / dot com.
