Posts previously starred (on pages further down the mail list not loaded yet) would not be displayed on top of the list when you select "Starred first". There is no way in Aqua Mail to quickly find all starred mails.

One suggestion would be to implement a button for a server-side search of all starred items. That should deliver results virtually instantaneously.
Granted, it won't do much good for the "starred first" option, but then again, I don't know if that option is of much value anyhow if it doesn't go deeper than what is currently loaded.

The app keeps a limited number of messages fresh and up to date, being limited in traffic and data storage.
The default is 25 (same as K-9 or the built-in mail app), but can be changed globally in the app's settings or an account's Options and Folders.
Yes, a filter, or a setting to "keep all starred messages up to date" may come later.
As for the usefulness -- I use it to keep track of which messages need a response, within the recent ones.

I get roughly 100 mails a day. With the standard setting of 25 mails (which is what I use too for performance reason), it would mean that any starred item flagged earlier the day or the days before would not be displayed in Aqua Mail.
I understand why you don't show all starred items the way you designed the feature. I am only afraid that it's misleading because a user might think that all his starred mails are displayed on top.

Have you tried changing "messages per page" setting in the account to, say, 100?

I could, but I prefer 25 for performance reason, and even 100 would still not solve the issue. I guess it comes down to what you star-flag. I tend to star emails that I want to look back at a later time without forgetting them, so it comes quite natural that starred mails in my case tend to be older.
I can live without the star feature. ;) But I can also imagine other users wondering about the same thing. To me it looks like a design issue. Just an idea, perhaps you could query (and cache) the mail list view in two steps when the "starred first" option is selected: first query the server for all mails with the starred flag, then query the server for the latest mails. Maybe it's an overkill. :-\

I'm thinking there should be an option to "keep starred emails up to date" or something.... Or a separate "made up" folder for starred messages which would be one place to go to see starred messages.
It's a pretty messy thing though, I wish IMAP was a bit smarter :)

Sounds good. Perhaps in a future version, if you might ever consider "virtual" folders, that display content based on saved searches. :)

Has this feature been addressed?
I star e-mails that I need to do something with, but as I get so many e-mails these tend to disappear from view quickly. I need some way to see all my stared e-mails. Even using some sort of on demand search for stars would be fine.

Hello, I'd like to vote for this feature. With your great application in place, the "Starred" virtual folder is the only remaining thing that forces me to visit the web interface of my email. I agree that a virtual folder or even "search online for starred mail" would do just fine (and, for me, better than switching ordering of inbox back and forth as the subject of this topic suggests).

I would also like to vote for this feature. I dont really care how its implemented internally, I would just like the "starred first" to show my starred messages regardless of how old they might be.
As a work around I set the "messages per page" to 1000. I have a 3 old Motorola Photon and I dont notice any performance hit whatsoever going from 100 messages per page to 1000.

The impact of "messages per page" really depends more on the network, not the phone model (except some really old and slow ones).
While I like the idea of a setting along the lines of "always sync all starred messages" -- there can be a performance / network impact...
Are we talking about this affecting just one folder (inbox, can be too limiting), or all (can be expensive)?

In message list view, tap the menu button, tap Starred First. Then tap the menu button again and tap Sort then tap Save As Default. This will always display starred messages in message list view. It does not sync with the server messages.
