Since turning off the icon, the push function isn't working. Ive been through every setting, tried all the suggestions on the forum, re-installed the app but had no luck. This is by far the best email app so i'd really like to get this solved.
please help

You will find this option in
> Settings > Look and feel > enable "Notification icon during sync and push"
However, I'm not sure that turning on this icon could solve the problem. There must be another reason for that issue...

thanks for the swift reply but that box is already ticked. like i said i've tried absolutely everything but that icon won't re-appear. when i first bought the app a few years ago i couldn't get it to work with push notifications but i tried again recently and it did work until i turned off the icon. now the icon won't come back on and push won't work.
is there any more info i can send to help solve this?
thanks in advance.

Please check your settings for 'Push' as follows:
1 - On app's level
> Menu button > Settings > Mail, receiving:
Push mail: enabled
2 - On account level
> long press on account name > Options and folders > Account options:
Push mail: enabled [disabled by default]
3 - On folder level
> long press on account name > Options and folders > Folders > press the wheel of the folder where you want to get push notifications (e.g. Inbox): enable/check 'Use Push mail'
Please have a look into the app's FAQ-page:
http://www.aqua-mail.com/?page_id=227
> Search for "How do I enable Push mail"
... and last but not least:
• What's your account server / webmail provider?

thanks but i've already been through these options and the forum + FAQs. i realise this is a common problem and i have done as much research as i could before posting here but still no joy.
i've got 2 email accounts: hotmail and my own website.
could it be that some other app is blocking it's background processes?

Some type of battery optimizer can be the culprit.
If you have Android 6+ there is a built-in battery optimizer where you'd need to add Aquamail to the exclusion ("white") list. And some custom ROMs have battery optimizers too, I don't know/remember about CM.
Overall, - how do you know that Push doesn't work? Is there any type of error, or you just don't get notifications even though you know that a new message(s) has(ve) arrived?

Problem solved, it was in fact cyanogen that was blocking notifications from aquamail. No idea how that happened, but now the icon is back and everything is working fine. Thanks for your help, aquamail is by far the best email app and the support is superb.

It might be worse adding that fact to the FAQ.
CM is a very popular custom ROM.

I wonder if the CM guys document this stuff at all?
Or do they think their users like surprises (and wasting their time)?
