Title: How do I reduce data usage
Post by: johnm243 on November 11, 2016, 07:50:20 pm
I am using a huge amount of data these days and most of it is coming from AquaMail. I looked in Help and the FAQ's and couldn't figure out how to set up AquaMail to not automatically download attachments.

Is there anyway to do this?

Thanks very much,

John

@Paris Geek has already answered your question.

In addition to that, - an idea of how you can lower your data usage even further:
1. Do not use a high number for "Messages to sync".
2. Decrease frequency of scheduled sync.
3. Under Settings -> Network -> check the settings at the bottom, under "Mobile Data Settings" section,  especially the 2nd and the 3rd in that category. This is especially helpful if you receive many messages that you don't need to read right away (or at all). In that case, - only a very small portion of a message (1 kB or headers only) is downloaded on mobile network. Not that when you are reading the message, the remainder of it will be downloaded if you scroll down.
Hope this helps.

And if it's an Exchange account -- the currently released "stable" version 1.6.2.9 does use a bit too much traffic.

The current "official test" version here:

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/org.kman.AquaMail

uses much less traffic for Exchange, especially if you:

Long press on the account -> options and folders -> account options -> set the "messages to sync" to a "date" value (e.g. last 7 days, last 10 days, etc.) as opposed to a "number of messages" value.

( the first sync with the new "last X days" may take a bit of time and use a bit of traffic, but it'll be much better from that point on )

Thanks all!

Paris Geek:
That Preload was exactly what I needed. Changed from 5 MB to 250K for the mobile data, left at 5 MB for WiFi (which I never use unless it is secured).

StR:
1 & 2. I had already reduced messages to sync to 5 days (otherwise too much space on the phone) and the sync interval to 10 minutes.
3. Also exactly what I needed. Changed from No Limit to 10 KB.

Kostya:
I'm not an Exchange user, thanks for the other info, as mentioned to StR, had already reduced to 5 days.

Thanks again everyone, very helpful!
