Unfortunately my backup password did not work or I simply forgot it. How can I reinstall my old backup?
Thanks in advance!

I am not aware of any "back door" for that. The password makes it secure and private.
You can try to wait for the developer, Kostya (he should be back next week) to verify that there are no tricks. But if I were you, I wouldn't hold my hopes.

Thanks for the fast answer!
Ok, I will be waiting for Kostya. Hopefully he has a solution :)

I'm pretty sure that there is no 'back door' implemented, sorry!

Correct. There is no "back door" or "master password", having one would compromise security.
So the password is strictly personal between you and the app.

Then I humbly submit that the mandatory password is made optional. Look, I'm sure all this password nonsense is there with the best of intentions... but it counts as another password I need to remember. Which I don't if I don't use it; and if I know I'm not going to use it I'm not going to think abut it much I always pick an easy default which in itself defeats the purpose of encrypting the backup in the first place. Unfortunately it turns out that I didn't even pick a default this time, so I really needn't have made the backup in the zeroth place.
Please do not suggest the use of password managers. These add just more passwords and more stuff to install and manage for what ought to be a simple 'click/tap & forget'-type thing; and I may not be able to access them due to a lack of connectivity which unfortunately happens all too often.
AquaMail does not, in any way, need to decide for me what is safe and what isn't. That it encrypts the passwords of the mail accounts; and that it presumably uses encrypted communication is perfectly understandable. Backups: that's a user decision, whether you agree with it or not.

The password is used for encryption. I think it's important to keep safe the file that has your "real" passwords.
Re: AquaMail does not, in any way, need to decide for me what is safe and what isn't.
Personally I don't want complaints that "this app is unsafe, is saved my password in a plain text file".
Second, isn't it an inconvenience that e.g. mail services require a password?
"Why does Gmail require me to enter a password, I just want to access my email".
Third, not being able to restore from backup - does not prevent you from using the app (yes it will be necessary to re-add the accounts and re-enter your settings).
In short - it's a security / convenience tradeoff, and given that "restore from backup" isn't a feature one needs daily, and that the protected information is rather sensitive, I personally think that the bias towards security is entirely appropriate.
