Title: Gmail Android now supports Exchange work email
Post by: mikeone on April 26, 2016, 08:25:08 pm
The Gmail for Android update [Version 6.4] now allows support for Microsoft Exchange, and users can download the latest version of the application from Google Play, though the rollout may take a few days to reach all users.

Although some Gmail for Android users already had Exchange support, it was limited to owners of Google Nexus devices, while the update app offers support for all Android-based devices.

"Exchange support was previously only available on our Nexus devices, but as of today, Exchange support covers mail, contacts, and calendar data in Android across all devices," a Google spokesperson confirmed.

So, Gmail is behind Aquamail in enabling exchange connection and now playing a catch-up game?

Yes, it looks like.
But I'm pretty sure they will chase Microsoft at first rather than AquaMail.
Because they will never be able to catch-up Kostya's brilliant app...  8)

I thought it always did, as long as the device's Android version was recent enough (so they could count on those Exchange services baked into the system, for which the device manufacturer pays the ActiveSync licensing fee).

Yes, I'm sure it's Hotmail / Outlook app they're chasing, and not even aware of Aqua's existence.

Like I wrote before, now the "landscape" looks like this: Google vs. Microsoft, with a few other survivors (MyMail, TypeMail) who can still afford to spend lots of money on giving their apps away for free (and on covering the costs).

No doubts about Google-MS competition. (That's why MS started Outlook app. I believe they bought somebody for that.)
I was just kidding. :)

They did buy the Android version, its maiden name was Acompli.
