I have my email setup using Zoho mail servers on IMAP. Everything works great except when I search. I get an error saying "Error performing search: invalid server response"
Does anyone have a suggestion? It seems like local results are loaded but all messages are not searched.

Chrystal ball not working, please capture the issue in the app's debug log (below in my signature).
Most likely a server bug, but I'll be able to tell from the log.

The question was about Zoho, but I'll respond about the other two:
- bk.ru is Mail.ru
When they added IMAP in 2011 or 2012, they did not implement server search.
"Promised" to do it "soon", it's 2016 now, still has not happened.
Has to be fixed by Mail.ru but won't be.
Not related to Zoho.
- outlook.com
As you and I already discussed a couple of weeks ago, this is broken on those "new servers" since the upgrade.
I believe only searching for "sender" or "headers" is affected -- while searching for "full text" still works.
Has to be fixed by MS and might be.
Not related to Zoho.
- Zoho
Got your log.
Yes, server issue.
They're unable to handle the search command variation which is used when searching for "sender" or "headers" (which is what's in your log).
Searching for "full text" should probably work, haven't heard otherwise from other users, but you log has only has sender/headers search.
Has to be fixed by Zoho, no predictions.
Sending: kman34 SEARCH RETURN (ALL) CHARSET US-ASCII OR FROM {16}
Got: kman34 BAD syntax: expecting 'c', found 'h'
??? What the heck is this "expecting c found h"?

And before this turns into a "oh no, this app's search is all broken":
@Paris Geek chose to post information on three specific mail services where there are issues with search (all of them in those mail services, not the app).
What he did not post is that searching (for both sender/headers and text) works just fine with:
AOL
Gmail
Fastmail
Yahoo
Yandex
Rambler
Dovecot (hosted mail)
and any other IMAP server which properly implements the IMAP search commands.

Re: No, "full text" search on Zoho server returns "invalid server response".
Didn't see that in the log (and don't have a Zoho account).
Well, I hope Zoho's support is as responsive as I am.
Re: I confirm, search (on servers) works perfectly also with "FREE" (French internet server), Hotmail (before 2016 ongoing migration).
The app's search commands are just from official IMAP documentation.
I read it. But apparently not every server developer does.

Um, so Zoho now lets you register a @zoho account (previously it only worked with domains, IIRC).
I was able to find a workaround.
@Djbiggross
Please try updating to this version:
https://www.aqua-mail.com/download/AquaMail-market-1.6.1.5-14.apk
PS - I think this worked before, so this must have been a server side change (maybe they didn't advertise support for ESEARCH, "enhanced search" before).

@Paris Geek
Got your log, yes, looks like both kinds of search (headers/sender and full text) are now working for you too, with my workaround in place.

Works like a charm! Thank you very much!
If I update via play store, will I lose this functionality?
Thanks,

The latest in Play is 1.6.1.15 which does NOT have this fix, but that's an older version, so you should NOT be prompted to upgrade.
If I release any further 1.6.1* updates to Play, the workaround will be included.
If you are enrolled into AquaMail "beta" on Play, the latest available there is 1.6.2-dev5 which (IIRC) does have the workaround too.
( and judging by Zoho support's response, I hope they should be fixing on their side, it is their bug )

There was no new Google Play version since that change was implemented. I assume that the next released version will have this change. So, you won't loose that functionality then.
