Title: Red exclamation marks on Accounts happening way too often - need way to *poll*
Post by: davidmark on March 24, 2016, 06:35:05 pm
There must be some way to tell this app that *I* want to "waste" my battery and check for mail every minute or two.

Nothing else works reliably. All of a sudden, I'm noticing constant failures and hours between deliveries, rendering the app unusable.

They never used to make email and notification (see also Pushover) apps like this. Perhaps they used more power, but at least they worked reliably and without constant baby-sitting by the users.

Just got latest version yesterday as I had hoped there was some stupid bug in the last version. No such luck. :(

POP3, IMAP, etc. have *never* experienced such random and crippling problems in my experience (going back decades). This "sync" BS is no substitute for email.

Confirmed in Tasker log, as well as the app's Inbox. It's just sitting there looking stupid while GMail and other mail clients download new messages.

I've been using various versions of this thing for a year. It used to work, but as of yesterday, the red exclamations are near constant. Nothing's changed on my end.

I use GMail with the push turned on. Even the periodic synchronizations fail now. Opening the app typically shows emails from an hour or two ago (seems up to four hours can go by without an update) and that miserable rainbow progress thing that I never wanted to look at, but now have to stare at constantly as I try to swipe-and-refresh, turn sync on and off, etc. in an attempt to get the app to go back to being a competent email client.  :(

I'm not sure what you're looking for.

For me AquaMail runs like a charm:

Scheduled sync every 15 minutes

IMAP Push delivers and notifies me immediately about every new incoming message -  even between scheduled sync events -

5 accounts - all configured as IMAP
1 Gmail account - also configured as an IMAP account

I'm pretty sure that your issue is caused by some weird configuration / settings.

I recommend to uninstall AquaMail and made a clean installation / account configuration. Then please have a look into the app's FAQ-Site at:

http://www.aqua-mail.com/?page_id=227

and go through the following items (search for "..."):

• How do I enable IMAP Push
• Notification icon in IMAP Push mode
• Notifications about all unread vs. just new messages
• Can I exclude a particular account from scheduled mail checks, without having to delete it?
• What does the 'System settings' setting do?
• How can I disable scheduled mail checking in the background?
• How can I specify my own mail check interval

In addition, you will find many other useful information on particular subjects and situations in the FAQ.

I'm not sure what you're looking for.

< Um, an email client that doesn't constantly fuck up.

For me AquaMail runs like a charm:

< So glad to hear it. Oddly enough, it used to work like a charm on my devices (HTC One mostly), but now it's a complete piece of shit. Looking at two phones side by side: one shows emails from two hours ago, one four.

Scheduled sync every 15 minutes

< So what? I use push as well, so sync shouldn't matter.

IMAP Push delivers and notifies me immediately about every new incoming message -  even between scheduled sync events -

< That's what it is supposed to do.

5 accounts - all configured as IMAP
1 Gmail account - also configured as an IMAP account

< Great. Just trying to get one back on track here.

I'm pretty sure that your issue is caused by some weird configuration / settings.

< LoL. Where do these people come from? :)

Do you have any apps that are battery optimizers, app managers, etc. installed?

What is the version of your Android? If it is 6.x, the "Doze" mode is a frequent culprit for the problem you are experiencing. Aquamail must be explicitly excluded from being "dozed" in the phone's configuration.

Just do you don't have to suffer this "piece of shit" any longer -- please send me this your Play order # (if you'd purchased the app) to kmansoft / gmail and I will refund.

If your phone is a Xiakerkj10-9 running MIUI, you may want to look at this:

( or email me for a refund, whatever )
