Question: Where/how is the Exchange calendar sync frequency set?
Background: I have disabled Scheduled sync for my Exchange account. I instead refresh (my work email) manually when I need to check something. The Exchange calendar is, however, still syncing from time to time, without me refreshing manually. I like that. But it seems to take some time for it to update on changes in my Exchange calendar.

When "scheduled mail checks" is not turned off, AquaMail fires off a calendar sync every time it checks mail in the account.
And whether it's off or on, Android also fires off calendar sync through AquaMail as often (or not often) as it sees fit, including after editing events on the device in a calendar app.

It seems to sync rather often, even without me updating the emails or editing the events in the calendar.
You indicate that there may be other triggers as well. Is this AquaMail intended to sync the exchange calendar "often enough," also when email sync is turned off?

AquaMail's "sync adapter" for Calendar is marked (in Android) as "auto-sync" so that it's triggered by Android after you've edited / created an event.
This also makes Android trigger sync "automatically, as it sees fit" (which I don't control).
The sync algorithm in AquaMail is incremental, so if there are no changes, it completes quite quickly.
