Once again congrats to your app. What I have discovered so far you did a great job !
As I have an OLED display, I use your dark theme. As it is designed for "nightmode" I guess, the colors are a bit flaw.
I found lot of adjustments regarding text and background for the maillist, but no choice for the icon on the left hand side of a message (where one could have pictures instead).
BTW: My english isnt the best and I always have difficulties finding the right translation for the menue items in settings etc. Where can I find the english language file (on the device / I am routed, or can it be found with 7zip in the apk itself) ?

The sender's icon?
First, you can turn it off in app settings -> message list.
Second, if the sender has an image, then the app will use that image.
If there is no image, the app uses "color chips" -- and in the dark theme, color chip colors are "muted" (darker) too.

OK and is there a way (edit config file ..., I am rooted) to inhibit muting the chips or make them lighter, as I am using it during daytime (just becaus of OLED draining the bat on white colors) ?

Sorry there isn't -- I think it's kind of cool that the chips use darker colors in the dark theme...
