Title: Aquamail Export / Import settings to another device
Post by: miguelgarciabs on June 16, 2015, 10:35:31 pm
Hello

Today I bought Aqua-mail and I'm really very impressed and satisfied with it.

Although this, I can't figure out how do I export all settings (accounts, look, configuration...)
from one device to be imported on another one.

Where exactly is it and how to reach it?

After this, I must also ask how do I import (the exported settings) on the other device.

Lots of thanks in advance,

Miguel Garcia

Hi Miguel,
Go to the app's main window (account list view) > menu button (three dots icon) > Backup and You can also

save your backup file to Dropbox, if you have a Dropbox account.

Details for "How to" look at this thread / post:

Hi

Thanks for your lighting speed answer.

The problem is:

I backup and sent the file to another device.

Here, it is convenient to say that, before the restore button becomes active on the "destination" device (the
new one), we must select the folder where is the backup file to be restored.

@Kostya
That's true.

Tested and agree. Current restore process could be much easier. Let user pick backup file using any file manager, fallback to current folder implementation in case of lack of apps to handle pick intent.

Oh, just no paintings. I am noob here (Paint skills only :P)

Nowdays, when you want to restore backup file, you have to place it somewhere. Then, in AquaMail you have to browse and pick folder, where the file is. In case you have more backup files in that folder during the restore process you are not asked which one to restore. (problem A)

So my proposal: When user wants to restore backup file, there should be button "Pick backup file" to simply pick file from your storage (no mess with folders) - this makes it simplier and solves problem A.

If it's a new installation, then there is no backup file...

... unless you are going to copy from cloud storage, and *that* button is enabled (if there are compatible cloud apps).

New installation, but you can have saved backup file. (If you switched phone or did reinstallation).
We should be able to pick file from device directly.

Yes, there is no problem if the backup file is stored in the cloud, e.g Dropbox, Box.com, OneDrive,....

The hassle starts if the user move the backup file from the old device simply as an attachment of a message and download this attachment e.g in the download folder (or any other specific folder) of the new device. Then you need the option to choose that specific folder to restore settings without to create a backup before (... on the new device).

mikeone, You are right and. Even this folder's path is hadly to find since it is sdcard/backup/AquaMail.

I vote for simplier path /sdcard/AquaMail or similar. Or, auto scan root of sdcard + Download folder for backup file. It's not so hard.

Paris Geek, you are right too, it works, but I don't consider it as the most user - friendly solution. When you need to change folders (to find one, where the backup file is) in Folder picker, why not choose the backup file directly in "Picker".
