I am on the latest version from Google Play (yesterday) .
It looks like there is a bug introduced in the previous version available in Google play (within last week).
Even though I have read message notificationa disabled, the messages go out with those requests.
(Or am I missing some option?)
I have: account->composing and sending -> request read receipt.

In any case,  I did not change any options, but the behavior changed.

Do you mean that you have this setting enabled / checked / turned on?

This setting is off by default, I just tried sending a test message, there is was no "read receipt" on the receiving side.

Can you clarify? Or maybe send me a test message?

To me - not at all :)

For cloud based mail apps - maybe (even though they said last year at Google I/O that this new API is not for mail apps).

For web sites - sure, run automatic tasks based on user's incoming messages, that sort of thing.

I'm much more -- gravely -- concerned about the new Doze Mode and App Standby:

Sorry,  I am on the road.
That option was and is off, but the recipient of my messages informed me that he started getting my messages with the "read-confirnation" requests.
I can check my self when I get to my laptop...

Hmm.

When you have a chance:

Do you see "Read receipt requested" on Aqua's compose window, before sending?

Are your messages replies or new ones?

If they're replies and *his* messages have "read receipt" -- THAT'S IT, found it.

When replying to a message with "read receipt" request, the reply will have it too. Wrong, that's a bug, will fix.

Yep, those were replies.
And, indeed, the correspondent had read-receipt enabled.

Thanks for figuring it out quickly!
