Title: How to create aliases/identities for an Exchange account
Post by: dougdougdoug on May 27, 2015, 11:02:34 pm
How do I create aliases/identities for my Exchange account? I've read some of the other posts, but I don't see an "identities" option anywhere in the app. Thank you.

You need the PRO version to be able to create identities.

Update/clarification:
Creating identities is not implemented for exchange accounts right now.

I have the Pro version. Now what do I do to set up my aliases for an Exchange account?

What am I doing wrong? I don't have an "identities" option after I long press the account name. Here's a screen shot of all of my options.

Sorry, identities are currently implemented for Internet mail and Gmail accounts. Not for Exchange.

If you purchased the app because of this -- missing -- feature, feel free to contact me for a refund at kmansoft / gmail.

Oh, OK, well at least I'm not going crazy! Perhaps I can set up my Gmail account in the Aqua-Mail and then create its aliases. Then, I could send from those identities, correct?  Even as a reply to a message in my Exchange account?

Also, it seems as if incoming Exchange messages are not appearing in the in-box immediately. Do I need to configure that somewhere?

Yes.

You will need to create the aliases in two places -- in Gmail / web and also in Aqua.

In the former, be sure to *uncheck* "Is an alias" for your, well, sending alias, or else Gmail will route the alias's sent messages back to your main inbox.

I also recommend a user written guide on Gmail aliases available in this very section, they're stickies at the top.

If you also make Gmail collect your Exchange mail for you, so you have something to reply to.

Sorry, that's another thing I don't have for Exchange -- push mail. I do have it for IMAP and it works with Gmail.

---

But taking a step back -- most Exchange mail systems also support connecting via IMAP, and usually IMAP push is supported as well.

So perhaps you can just set up your work Exchange account as IMAP (in Aqua), not as an Exchange (EWS) account.

Then you won't have to mess with collecting it into your Gmail account, will be able to set up identities, and quite possible will be able to enable push as well.

What you will lose compared to setting it up as EWS (in Aqua) is calendar sync. IMAP just doesn't provide that.

OK, thanks. I use Intermedia as my hosted Exchange provider, and I'm not sure if they offer IMAP access to Exchange accounts, but I will check. (I can still get calendar sync outside the Aqua-Mail app, that's fine.)

Kostya,
I can't find any description belonging "Identities / Aliases" in the FAQ's section
http://www.aqua-mail.com/?page_id=227

Would it be possible to add this topic in the FAQ's?  (... sometimes)
Kindest regards
Mikeone

OK, using IMAP seems to work. But it raises another issue: Sent and Deleted items are not being put into the correct Exchange folders. How can I fix that?

To assign the mappings: long press the account -> options and folders -> folders.

Find the right server side Deleted folder, tap it, choose "Sync with [ Deleted ]". Same with Sent.

I think I'm getting the folder sync issue working, thanks!
