Title: New phone, no notifications
Post by: Robert.K on April 13, 2015, 02:09:39 pm
Hi,

I have got problem with notifications in the status bar ( I know, same topic again) . I understand the reason behind it is that all messages are already read on arrival and I do not quite understand why. With my previous Samsung everything worked out of the box. Now I got new Samsung S6 and I literally killed half a day trying to get it working with no success at all. I have tried to play with different setting but I am clearly missing something. This literally drives me nuts so I appreciate any help

Many thanks
Robert

Is this a Yahoo account?

First, there is a known issue (occasional) with Yahoo that sometimes their IMAP server reports as read messages that aren't actually read.

To check -- long press the account -> "Diag: message dates" -> choose Inbox -> run the test and you'll be prompted to send me a log file.

Second, if you use another mail app at the same time (desktop? Outlook?) and it's set up using POP3 -- then that will cause messages retrieved over POP3 to be marked as read in web mail and then sync as such (as read) into Aqua over IMAP.

Most if not all mail services will do that (mark as read messages retrieved over POP3), it's intentional and in any case it happens before AquaMail gets into the picture.

You can easily test this by not running your other mail app for some duration of time (and perhaps sending a couple of test messages during that time) and checking its settings to see if it's POP3 or IMAP.

If it's POP3, I very much recommend switching to IMAP there. It's much better than POP3 when you need to access your mail from several different mail apps / devices.

I see, yes - it was in fact POP account ( to my surprise). Somehow still, it managed to work over the last four years, the problem only appeared when I moved to a new phone.

Thanks for your help

Does the app receive new messages (as it should, every 15 minutes with default settings)?

Are they marked unread?

Assuming yes --

-- then there should be status bar notifications.

If this new phone has Android 5.*, then please check if maybe you have it in "priority / don't disturb" notification mode.

One other thing to check:

System settings -> apps -> find AquaMail and click into it -> make sure that "Enable notifications" is enabled (checked). Supposed to be enabled by default, and is a system level setting, but it seems to have a life of its own sometimes...
