Title: Can I add a ringtone?
Post by: kawal on April 07, 2015, 02:09:00 am
I have a new Motorola Moto X smartphone and I'd like to add a special ringtone for Message Notifications.  But I only have an option for the standard Moto X ringtones when I go to select one.  Can I add a special .mp3 file option for a ringtone?  I already did for the phone itself, but that option doesn't appear when I go to Settings in Aquamail.

Thank you,

Ray

You will need an app capable of picking non-system sounds.

Rings Extended
ES Explorer
Solid Explorer

possibly dozens of others...

On my new phone, Motorola Moto X with Lollypop Android, I simply adding a short .mp3 file to the Ringtone folder.  I copied it from my old Moto X Rington folder.  In Settings on the new phone, the new ringtone shows up on the stock ringtone list.  But on the ringtone list for Aquamail, it does not show up.  On my old Moto XM, the same ringtone DOES show up on the Aquamail ringtone list.

I installed Aquamail (Pro) prior to adding the new ringtone to the phone list.  Could it be that I need to uninstall Aquamail and reinstall it so that the app can find the new ringtone?

thank you,

The sound picker window is a system component, even though the preference is inside AquaMail...

Sorry I can't be any more specific than that, since that's just how it is, what's there in the list of ringtones is not controlled by my app at all.

Don't see any reason to uninstall / reinstall Aqua but I'd try rebooting the phone :)

Thank you for the suggestions.  Rebooting didn't help, but when comparing my last phone (Moto X) to the new Moto X, I saw that there are two folders for sounds - one for ringtones and one for notifications.  I didn't have the new file in the Notifications folder.  Once I copied it to that folder, my file showed up just fine - both in Settings for the phone and in Aquamail settings as well.

So I'm back to a perfect email app again!   :)

Thanks again for your replies.

Oh, right, to Android, there are ringtones (for incoming calls) and notifications (sms, email, etc) and those are two distinct sound categories. Naturally, Aqua asks the system for notification sounds.
