Title: Where are the check boxes I see people referring to...

I would like to have "check boxes" to the left of messages so I can select multiple messages to delete simultaneously.  I see reference to this in the forum, however I cannot seem to figure out how to add check boxes to my messages..

In message list please tap on contact icons to select one or more messages.
