Title: Inline images are downloaded when forwarding
Post by: mabahj on October 30, 2014, 04:59:39 pm
Hi,
Using version 1.5.0.19

Got a spam email that I wanted to forward to an abuse account and noticed that the forwarded message (as seen in the editor, without touching the "pen" button) had downloaded the inline images. The images were not attached to the email and were not shown when I initially viewed the message. This is unfortunate for several reasons. In my case because the spammers will know that the spam was read.

Great app!

This behavior is really annoying.

>> K9 does not. Gmail (webmail) doesn't

So what do they do?

Leave gaping holes where the images were?

Is that considered better?

It should show only a placeholder icon

Outlook gives a warning message, saying that it will download the images if you want to forward the message. I think that is unfortunate as well.

I would maybe prefer a dialog: remove references to external images/content or leave as is. The latter would show (download) or not show the images when you edit and forward, depending on whether you downloaded the images in the first place.

If that is too complicated to do, then I would expect the default behaviour to be that the images are not shown (downloaded) unless I actually chose to download them in the first place.

+1
(for the "dialogue"  solution)

Fully agree with all your suggestions.
