Title: Can I uninstall default mail client?
Post by: Gary2Seven on October 09, 2014, 07:37:20 pm
I love AquaMail - best email client around by miles.

but I notice when I check the running apps on my phone that the default Android "Email" is still running in the background.

My phone is rooted so I can remove this app, does AquaMail use the default app at all? am I safe to uninstall it?

Just disable it in App info

Just disable it in App info

Disable isn't available, it's greyed out, even after I force a stop, that's why I wanted to know if I can remove.

Aqua does not use the standard Android Email, or manufacturer specific Email apps in any way.

It also does not use the accounts there.

Removing accounts from the Email app should be safe and have no side effects -- unlike removing the @gmail account, which gives you access to all kinds of synced data (such as Contacts, Play purchase history, etc.). Luckily, it is possible to disable email sync for the @gmail account in system settings.

Other than that, the "stock" Android Email does have a way to disable mail sync per-account. Manufacturer specific Email apps may vary here.
