Title: How to display accounts within the first level of the Accounts sidebar
Post by: rustymonkey on September 05, 2014, 07:51:55 pm
Hi,

By default the Accounts sidebar (that appears when the user clicks the menu button/header when an account is active) displays something like:
< Accounts
Inbox  xx
[Drafts]
[Sent]
[Deleted]
Other folders...

Is there a way to make it display:
Account 1  xx
Account 2  yy (o)
Account 3  zz
------------
Inbox  xx
[Drafts]
[Sent]
[Deleted]
Other folders...

The reason I ask is that it would be quicker (one less click) and more intuitive (for users used to other mail clients e.g. stock iOS, Android clients).  And yes--I realize that a similar result can be accomplished by clicking the 'Back' button to get back to from an Inbox to the Account list, but that's confusing for users who start Aquamail directly within an Inbox--in which case the expected action of pressing 'back' would be to close the app.

Thanks for a great mail client!

So I set the app to start in a particular mailbox, and 'back' to exit the app (as you suggested), but that still leaves me with a problem of one extra click to determine whether other accounts have new mail and to access the mail.

I understand that many users may have 5-10 accounts.  But I would argue that a large number of users have 2-4 accounts, in which case the approach that I'm suggesting is more usable and intuitive.  A possible implementation might be:
Accounts in navigation drawer
Displays accounts directly in the navigation drawer instead of within a subfolder

If enabled, then _inactive_ accounts should be displayed in navigation drawer  e.g. if the currently active account is Account 1, then the navigation drawer would appear below the header bar for account 1 as shown below:
-------------------------------------
 - Inbox  (Account 1)  xx
-------------------------------------
Account 2  yy
Account 3  zz
-----------------
Inbox  xx
[Drafts]
[Sent]
[Deleted]
Other folders...

I hope that the developers would consider this.

Thanks.
