Title: Help on smart folder please
Post by: grumpy on September 05, 2014, 04:29:44 pm
I've trawled the forum but still failing to understand what shows up in the smart folder. What I want to do is:

a) show ALL my unread mail in the smart folder whichever folder it is actually sitting in
b) show NOTHING else (including sent mail)

At the moment I have two folders synced. One is showing 56 unread and the other 4 unread. The account is correctly showing 60 unread but the smart folder is showing 19. (?) I want it to show 60.

I have the smart folder time period set to unread and both folders are set to be included in the smart folder - what am I doing wrong?

(It's an office 365 corporate account - exchange mail - with quite a lot of server side rules that file incoming messages as they arrive. On my work machine I use the 'unread' folder as my starting point rather than the inbox and that's really what I want to do with AM)

Thank you - that's both clear and helpful

The problem was actually that AM had not finished syncing properly. The unread mail count was downloaded but not all of the messages. When AM caught up I had a smart folder that contained exactly what I wanted. Is this 'partial' sync a common problem?

PS. I don't allow myself to have unread messages for 2 or 3 years! :D

Per-folder unread counts (in the account list and the sidebar) show the unread count reported by the server (for IMAP and EWS, at least, where this is tracked server-side).

Some of those unread messages may be very old, but the information is there, and I think it's useful.

The smart folder pulls from messages actually synced to the device -- and the unread count reflects that too.

You may want to increase each account's "messages to sync" -- for the "sync window" to include more of your unread messages, hopefully all of them (except if you have some long forgotten ones).

Long press an account -> options and folders -> account options -> "messages to sync". The default is 25, 100 is still fast, 250 almost... the rest is for people who check mail a few times a day.
